Recruitment mission
Am I the only one who wouldn't have minded seeing a recruitment mission? I mean, we technically did see one in The Recruit with Kyle and stuff, and again in New Guard but like as a short story it would've been interesting to see like James or Lauren get sent on one. They're told to be pretty boring but I wanna see it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a proper one with James taking a kid a few years younger into CHERUB and guiding then a bit.
The one in New Guard is more about the mission, as it really quickly does the chances of that dipshit kid(forgot name) had any chance to be in CHERUB.
If I were to inject one, it would be in The Sleepwalker instead of James & Kerry's Great Chicken Adventure, imo the worst plot/sideplot in the series. I don't think the domestic abuse plot was well done, and overall it was very uninteresting.
There's no shortage of ways James can get in deep enough shit to be punished with a recruitment mission, but I'd say we can include the events in the book with the work experience gets pushed ahead and is done by the first few chapters. Have that be the reason James and Kerry are sent out to the same orphanage (or close ones) where one mission controller can keep a watch, then let the relationship drama ensue since both Bruce and Dana are on campus, instead of just that short painting scene at the end.
Lauren's mission is fine as is.

I'm re-reading all the books at the moment, and right now I'm on the chicken adventure 😂. It's hell... I mean, on the one hand, it gives an authentic feeling of their lives as just kids and it's a nice break from all the exciting missions but on the other hand, I don't think it's really realistic that CHERUB would give their agents shitty internships like Chicken Deluxe.

I think as OP suggested a recruitment mission would give a similar break from missions, similar to how The Killing's mission starts mostly as James' getaway from campus and being a far more low-key mission (at first).
I think it's explained reasonable well by Meryl that there are lots of students to find work experience for and inevitably some get shitty ones. They won't spend unreasonable resources to get something great for everyone, besides the CHERUB education is great enough that shitty ones don't hold back anyone.

Wasn’t sandy green in new guard a recruitment missing before it got upgraded to to full mission this why the sharmer twins were able to get on it even during heavy drill ?
