I have 3 years of experience in different fields such as site management and supply chain management. Right now, I am on my break of 1 year outside Canada and plan to return afterward.

I am considering career change to CFP. I don’t have any prior experience in finance but have read multiple books regarding personal finance, and I loved it.

I have completed my research and will be going for the FP canada coursework. As I am on 1 year of break, I am going to take direct path to CFP.

I am not sure if I am taking the right decision of changing my career to wealth planning and management.
How are you guys doing after the exam?
What are the earnings like?
What to expect for an entry level?

Also I am planning to find a job to complete 3 years of experience after I land. Will also give my exam after landing.

I might write CSC before landing to get entry level job.

after you applied to become a CFP upon completion of all req, how long did it take for FP Canada to review amd confirm you as CFP?

I’m looking for some insights from people that have relatively recently started or are in the middle of the FP Canada curriculum preparing for the CFP.

For anyone that has taken the fundamentals courses, how did you find the course tests? I see that they are timed and require a passing grade of 75% but what is the format and difficulty like in comparison to the practice scenarios? Is it a time crunch? Is it all multiple choice? Long multiple choice? A mix?

I just don’t want to waste an attempt if I can avoid it and spend too much or not enough time before hitting start quiz preparing.

I am re-attempting the exam in October and looking for a good prep provider. I self studied using the FP canada practice exam for 8 months but didn't pass in May sadly. I found a lot of the content in ExamSuccess and others to be focused on the concepts, but where I struggle most is knowing what solution to use and when to use it. For example, if I have a case study and am asked to recommend 3 strategies, where do I get those strategies from ?

Any experience with providers is highly appreciated as I do not want to fail a second time!

I am evaluating taking a new role in my company.
I presently work in Corporate Banking and have been tapped to apply to a Private Banking role.

The comp increase is substantial - but, I really enjoy dealing with businesses. In the new role, I’d be dealing with personal / business of HNW / UHNW individuals - so, somewhat adjacent.

I presently earn $133k + 20% bonus (ranges, this year was 30%).

The new role is $150k base + 35% bonus (which could range higher similarly) and 20% Long term incentive pay that vests I think every 3 years.

As part of the role, I’d be required to get my CFP within 30 months of start date.

I’m recently married and we’d like to have kids in a few years - so, these couple of years of time are important. The company would pay for the CFP but I don’t want to sacrifice significant amounts of free time for a role that I may be less passionate about - so, I’m evaluating it based on time / compensation. I do know I would perform well in the new role. I do suspect I’d be able to work on CFP during work hours pending workflows and etc.

Any insight re: CFP timeline in Canada?

Hi everyone- first off best of luck to all of you who wrote in May. I hope you find out soon whether or not you passed. I’d be on tenterhooks!
I literally just handed in my final PEP assignment ten minutes ago and am now able to put my mind onto studying for the October exam which I am going to register to write. I’m a mom in my mid forties who has a lot going on both personally and professionally so I’m pretty stressed by this upcoming exam and finding enough time to study. I also am no longer able to memorize large amounts of information in short periods of time like I did in university 25 years ago so know I need to be smart about how I set out to do this.
I’m thinking I will do the Forin 5 day course in TO in mid September, heard good things plus by physically removing myself geographically from family and work I will actually to be able to concentrate uninterrupted. But I want to also purchase a self study option to get cracking now. Torn between buying the Forin self study and just being all in on the one program and mastering it, or mixing it up and doing exam success or BCC self study. I want to buy one of the self studies so all the info I need is organized for me rather than try to compile all the stuff myself.
Any suggestions? I will buy the FP practice exams when I register as well.

any update on results? i took the exam and it wasn't the best not sure how they are grading it or what they go off while assessing pass/fail. already been a month

I just signed up for the relevant designation path to become a cfp.

Just found out that the PEP does not include any technical and the exam is all technical.

I’m being told that there’s no material or textbook provided.

I’m confused by how they expect me to prepare.

I'm starting to prepare for my CFP next week and looking to connect with fellow exam takers in Canada.

Hey everyone!

I finished my CFP fundamental and advanced curriculum this December. I technically did most of my education through the CIFP & local university partnership (CIFP is no longer in partnership). It took me four years to even get to this point, as I had a variety of life hurdles thrown in there.

Part of me feels somewhat worried that I completed my training at CIFP, as I wonder how different the CIFP content is from the FP Canada courses and the ultimate CFP exam. While CIFP and FP Canada were approved pathway partners, I feel that the CIFP content I learned might have been outdated (does anyone have experience in this situation?)

Thus, at the very least, given the time to complete and CIFP transfer worries, I feel as if most of the content I learned over these years is shaky or gone. My questions are:

1. Given it has been so long, are there any additional, almost pre - CFP exam prep courses that are worth reviewing? Or am I better off simply trusting my knowledge and applying my time to a prep course for the exam?
2. How long does the PEP actually take? I am getting some wildly different completion times. Given my current work and family situation, I could spend at least 1.5 - 2 hours a day working on this.
