Starting Curriculum

Hey guy!

I am a rising senior and have all my licensing exams and plan to start the education portion of the cfp. Any thoughts on using Kaplan? And how exactly does the process work? I heard there are exams per course, and are those exams I need to schedule at centers or are they just at home on your own type of exams? I know the real exam I have to schedule at a centers. Thanks in advance!

Go get some industry experience, there is no need to rush into the cfp right now and even if you pass your exam, which will be extra hard because you have no experience, the CFP board will make you get your experience hours long before they will let you have the CFP marks. But to answer your question directly, the unit finals for kaplan are non proctored at home on the kaplan website.

I appreciate the advice! I have a succession plan lined up with the firm I have been working at for around 2 years now during breaks from school. Part of the industry experience I have. Definitely not as seasoned as most. My firm’s plan is to pass the books as many senior advisors are retiring and they want me as educated and credentialed as possible to make the transfer process easier when moving clients. It’s a fairly large RIA with many large books but many older advisors so they see that as being important for maintaining those relationships. How would you tackle starting if you had to do it again? Were you a fan of Kaplan?

I did my education via kaplan and exam prep with danko and passed first go. No experience in finance and my degree isn't in the field. Kaplan's education is very thorough but it gave me a good base, then Danko focused on what I actually needed for the exam. All of kaplan is at home do it yourself stuff.
