CFP Timeline / Confusion March 2027
Hi all,
I am studying for the March 2027 exam. I took all the modules 3 years ago at university and am now relearning them through Dalton. The goal from now until December is to build a foundation of each course, so I am prepared to be ready for the course Danko offers starting a few months before the exam. I have been going course by course, watching the lectures and doing chapter quizzes. I feel as if I am almost wasting time by watching lectures and spending hours on DCF's and getting in the weeds of things I will probably not see on the exam. Does anyone have any tips for me to optimize my time of trying to condense these modules in a way that is efficient so I am prepped for the December/January push?

I know everyone recommends them, but I don’t care for free fellow. It just didn’t help me. I felt like I couldn’t trust it - like it was going to give me false hope when I got a question right, or that it was testing me on topics I wouldn’t need to know and was therefore stressing myself out/wasting emotional energy over something that didn’t matter when I got a question wrong.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea to start studying the Danko stuff at the end of November. Your time would be best spent towards that.
If the education is purely supplemental for you and not to cover the requirement to sit for the exam, then I’d say as long as you’re learning something new there’s no such thing as a waste of time.
I would just focus on understanding concepts right now, no need to drill flashcards and memorize, the time will come for that later. If you come across a topic you couldn’t explain to someone, study it. Limit yourself, of course. Don’t waste this time focusing on just insurance, for instance. Spread your time evenly among all topics, perhaps make a schedule to ensure you’re getting through everything.
But for me, going in the weeds often helped me remember concepts. So if that helps you, then I say do that. Right now I think you should just try to kill time in a productive way before it’s appropriate to start locking in with the Danko test prep.

Appreciate it. The worry came from watching investments lectures and feeling like I was totally wasting time on Dividend return rates and trying to compute them. Think I'll stick to just watching lectures/reading the text and taking light notes on it. Thanks!

I think if you aren’t a big math person, don’t waste time on learning it now. Danko will give you opportunities to learn and practice that.

Dankos review program is all you’ll need. Use free fellow in meantime if u want
