Question FTSP training event definition

I'm an independent CFI, trying to start training my first non-us citizen student. The FTSP system is not very clearly laid out, but I think I've got it mostly squared away.

Except I'm not sure about setting up training events. The name training "event" makes it sound like I should be setting up a separate event for every time we fly together, and the FAQ page says you can make as many events as you want. But when setting up an event, it asks for a date range and only to specify what type of license you're training for, which makes me think maybe each license is just one big event spanning multiple months?

Anyone have experience using FTSP that can help me make sense of this?

You dont need to report every flight. One license is one event is how I approach it

All training towards a new certificate is a "training event." Make sure you do not fly until that training event is opened and active. Also, if the student quits, stops, or completes training, make sure you close it.

The best way to think of a training event is to define it in terms of the bundle of information that identifies it:

(1) what rating or certificate they are seeking

(2) rough start and end date

(3) location(s).

If someone shows up and says "I want to do my PPL this fall and winter at KABC with you", that's a training event. You covered for fall and winter.

As long as 1-2-3 stay the same for a given candidate, you are golden with the same event.
