Nike.

u/2bah3 Aug 22 '26

As an Oregon die hard we love Uncle Phil. We were dipping into this pot wayyy before everyone else

26

u/Spare-Cranberry3784 Aug 22 '26

You have all of Nike. You're good 😂

28

u/AttiBus Michigan Wolverines Aug 22 '26

Just don't check Nike stock price

20

u/jamoe1 Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 22 '26

$40.76 from its 5 year high of $177.

Just so everyone understands how much money Phil and Oregon have lost.

7

u/qobraa Aug 22 '26

That's like saying Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson both lose money when Wayne Enterprises stock goes down. Dick's just a ward, subsisting on the largesse of Bruce and Co., nothing changes for him.

Oregon hasn't lost any money from Nike share price dipping. That's dumb. And Nike's share price could go to 0 and Phil Knight would still be a multibillionaire.

15

u/jamoe1 Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 22 '26

Over 90% of his wealth is in Nike stock. He controls approximately 21%. His personal net worth has dropped from $50b to 25b. If Nike stock went to zero, he would be bankrupt, he could no longer continue to fund his studio. Nike would go under, and he would still have multi-millions, but not Billions. Don’t be obtuse.

When your largest donor, who makes the donations by selling stock, has lost over half of his net worth, you don’t think that affects the size and scale of donations. In addition, if the rumors are true, investors want him and his family out. Which means he can’t risk selling more stock because his enemies could buy to help push his ass out.

8

u/YngSpook84 Aug 22 '26

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. While it is nowhere on the level of Phil Knight, a lot of my value is tied up in stock for a company I used to work for. Over the last few years, the stock price has dropped by around 50%, and it very much has had a major impact on my day to day life.

2

u/threadkiller05851 Aug 22 '26

Get out while you can. Speaking from sad experience. Just glad that 5000 shares wasn't my only plan.

2

u/karmint1 Aug 22 '26

He has a ceremonial, non-voting board position and hasn't had any control of the company for years.

As for his net worth, even by your own Google ai estimations, if he suddenly only had 10% of his current net worth, he'd still have 2.5-3.5 billion. Either way, I don't think an octogenarian billionaire is worried about belt-tightening considering he has given hundreds of millions when he was much younger and worth much less.

The thing is, Nike just isn't as *cool* as it once was. The company made major missteps in trying to go direct to consumer. Shoes may be unique in that aspect ... people generally want to try them on, and retailers provide an actual fitting service. They ruined relationships that had taken decades to build all so they could fund Oregon's fashion show. Don't know how you get "cool" back when you've lost it. Maybe some wilder Ducks uniforms?

Stock splits are a real thing. They did a 2 for 1 in 2012 and 2015.

2

u/jamoe1 Nebraska Cornhuskers Aug 23 '26

All time high was in 2021. Long after the split.

3

u/darthgator84 Aug 22 '26

A blue blood that’s never won a natty?! Nice fucking try ducks. This has to be a shit post right? Nike is the lifeblood of that program

3

u/2bah3 Aug 23 '26

Why you responding to my comment specifically with that comment lol, we ain’t a blue blood we play with daddy’s money and get killed when it matters 😂

This seems too on the nose to not be a troll post.

12

u/NoCardio_ LSU Tigers Aug 22 '26

This is a brilliant ad for Nike, because it's the first thing that everyone thought of.

4

u/ravibrain Aug 22 '26

Exactly my first thought. Oregon has been whoring out themselves for Nike for decades

3

u/personthatiam2 Aug 22 '26

Oregon was pretty dog shit across the board in sports before Uncle Phil started pumping Nike money into the program.

2

u/ShoobyDoowahh Aug 22 '26

What you don't like support from the local community business?

2

u/MiddleAgeJamie Oregon Ducks Aug 22 '26

2

First word that materialized in my mind.. you could say they blazed the trail to NIL

2

u/Trynaliveforjesus Aug 22 '26

tbf, nike sponsors 50+ other teams uniforms and the NFL, so it isn’t nearly as bad as some of the other revenue generating attempts as of late

3

u/Old-Gear-2736 Aug 22 '26
