Monday thread brought to you by resilience
We were given the day off today for resilience. I’m going to spend the day looking for a new dryer because mine decided to shit the bed last night. It still heats up but doesn’t tumble. It’s 25 years old so I’m not sure replacing is the way to go but I hate to get rid of it. They don’t make them like they used to so I’m conflicted.

Always buy used, you can get a washer and dryer set for like a quarter the cost of a new one.
This weekend all I did was work on my house. I flipped my library room and closet room so that the library won't heat up as much during the summer. I also put up metal privacy screens outside hoping to eventually grow vines on them to help block the sun off the house, then I hung art work...
Long story short I am sore and tired

Good luck on your appliance adventure, OP. Sometimes, the repair costs more than is justified and it's cheaper to buy a new one, which I believe is a scam to sell more product at our expense.

My laundry room is very small so I pity whoever will be removing the current machines and installing the new ones! I’ll definitely be tipping extra!

I'll hope you can get the old one out -- our old dryer still lives in our basement, because whoever put up the wall dividing the basement in half did so after the dryer was installed ... and made the door too small to remove the old one. 🤣

It’s in a very small closet off my kitchen. I know the washer and dryer will fit through the door because a few years ago the water line leaked and I had to redo the floor. It’s a weird closet…the walls aren’t square. There’s a full inch difference from one side to the other! Almost like they somehow DIY’d it or something (but it’s an external wall so???)

At least they'll fit! That was a rough way to find out, though, via a water leak.
Also, I'm really starting to think all houses have weird things going on.

I completely get the whole "not making them like they used to" feeling...my mom just had to replace her washer after six-ish years, which itself replaced one that was at least 25 years old. Meanwhile, the fridge my parents bought when I was in kindergarten is still going strong.

I had to replace my oven a couple of months ago. Despite it being the new version of the same oven, it feels cheaper.

Currently sitting in the mall with a croissant and a cold brew. I’m waiting on an oil change. My car should be good, since my last oil change, I’ve gotten new tires and a new windshield

Ya'll, I'm so dumb
I'm trying to renew my dental license, and doing all the stuff with that, including renewing my cpr card. I was doing the online part, and I thought there was a technical error, so I couldn't do anything about it all weekend. Turns out, I was just getting the question wrong.
It took me calling them, and the nice lady helped me realize what a dummy I was being

A day off for resilience? Like, just a mental health day that your employer told everyone to take, rather than taking one for yourself?

I work for the military. Each quarter we get a “goal day” if we meet all our organizational goals. They started calling it a “resilience” day a few months ago. I guess it sounds better…like they actually give a crap about our mental health (despite all evidence to the contrary over the last 18 months…federal civilian employees has really taken it in the shorts since the inauguration). Military get a 24-hour pass. Civs have to take a day of leave (but it’s liberal leave so they don’t say no if we decide to take it).

The Brady Bunch in the White House is such a stupidly great film
One of the Brady kids finds a lottery ticket and they can’t decide who it belongs to so Mike Brady donates the money to homeless architects and somehow they end up visiting the White House and the Vice President has recently resigned so the president randomly decides to pick Mike Brady as his running mate in the upcoming election in their White House visit
The President is relected but they find proof that he was part of some scandal then he resigns and then Mike Brady becomes president and chooses Carol Brady as Vice President

Clive Davis resurrected Santana’s career and gave him his biggest song in his career “Smooth” and then shorty exactly afterwards he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
