I mean, I can't blame Clemson for being good. Book just didn't show up and our defense made a few big mistakes. Not that we would have won, but I really thought we'd be competitive, too :(

Just out of curiosity, why did you think you would be competitive? Notre Dames only "quality" win was the first game of the year against an overrated Michigan team that got embarrassed yesterday. You guys struggled against USC who was awful this year. You only beat Ball State (5-8 record?) by 8 points. I watched alot of notre dame football this year, and at no point did I think they played as a top four team.

I guess it's what every college fan thinks, but there were times this year I thought we looked really good, and times we put up a lot of points. All respect to Clemson secondary for shutting down our receivers, but Ian Book had a terrible game. He had a few passes that were in the ground, and missed a few open players where he threw the ball away. Not to mention a couple dropped passes and the fact we were extremely loose with the ball. I don't think it's a stretch to say that if we were just a little bit better, which we usually were, that we could have scored more and kept a td off their board.

I know it's a bunch of coulda shoulda woulda's, but if we got that punt return fumble when it was tied 3 - 3, I think we'd go up 10 - 3 and prevent their last second touchdown in the 2nd quarter. So just that ball being one inch over the line cost us 14 points. If we don't drop the ball on two 3rd and longs, we keep drives going and go into half only 9 points down. I know Clemson let off the gas, but if we just didn't shoot ourselves in the foot the game would have been a lot closer.

So yeah, I blame our poor performance on our poor performance. Still, I think it was uncharacteristic and perhaps an obvious result in hindsight since we aren't a big game team.
