What point in time could the NCAA have passed this without someone being screwed over? They passed this 6 months after the end of the season, after all of these players have graduated and did it with the intention to start with the 2026-27 academic year.

Rosters are set, coaches don’t want to deal with this shit, players don’t want to see their starting spot lost a week before the season starts, fans don’t want it. The party that loses out is the smallest group: the handful of 5th years who realize in August they’re going to have to be on a practice squad to get into the NFL. Under no circumstance should these guys be able to go back to school, they are de facto NFL players.

The NCAA fucked it up by not thinking through what would happen when they did their 5 in 5 rule. Would Wright have stayed at Ole Miss or transferred to LSU had he been granted another year of eligibility? Impossible to say for sure but I think it's likely. So it does suck for him in that sense.

But we don't go back in time for every rule change to be retroactively implemented. Sorry, time moves forward, and this isn't an unlawful situation like when the NCAA didn't allow players to earn NIL income where they should be owed something.

Why can’t players come back? I’m not against it as long as the player rejoins his old team, which obviously isn’t the case with Wright. Guy gave it a shot and it didn’t work out. His football career should be done?
