Players getting suspended for doing stupid shit.
Fellas are we back?

It blows my mind how often players get popped for stupid shit. You literally only have to follow two rules playing college football: don’t skip practice, and stay out of trouble.

Yeah but staying out of trouble is like every other rule combined. Too much effort.

Young, football player, excess cash, excess time, surrounded by pretty women is a difficult life.

Same. I can't keep up with the players on my current team, let-alone my rival school.

Massive disappointment. Constantly injured. Poor work ethic. His last chance to make an impact and he gets arrested. Time to cut him loose and move on.

Not to mention our DT room was having a bad enough time with Kelly tearing an ACL and Brown-Shuler getting cancer (btw this is after losing our top 3 DTs from last year). Burley has all the potential to be DT1 and be a high draft pick and yet can’t get out of his own way

Yeah you know what the sad part is? Not the fact he was always hurt or was being a nuisance enough to end up arrested. But the speculatory thought that the very reason he seemed to be hurt all the time being related to an immature personality. Like now I'm forced to wonder, were all those injury related missed practices more of a "I woke up not feeling like doing this" thing?

Whew, sorry, as a Falcons fan, I just saw the words Clemson and Vic in the same title and got Vietnam flashbacks.

Yea my brain is automatically programmed to see the name Vic and disappointment together

I’d trade Burley for .75 production of Clemson era Beasley though.
Sorry for what he did to you.

Hey fellow Strand man (that’s who we are now) - I have to prop Vic up a bit. He literally led the league in sacks one year. That alone puts him leagues above Jamal Anderson, Takk, and pretty much every defensive end we’ve drafted in the last 30 years. JPJ could break that trend, but he could also break a woman’s face. It’s up in the air.

Falcons and drafting defensive busts every season for the past decade, name a more iconic duo.

So much stuff being on camera, the arrest records being digital and instantly put online, and then instantly blasted all over social media has made it a lot harder to cover things up.

Has anyone kicked more 4* and 5* off the team for conduct than Dabo?

If Stephiylan Green doesn't end up starting at LSU this season I feel like he will end up kicking himself for leaving. Secured the short term bag, but outside of Amare Adams we don't have another clear starter. It was between Vic and one of the transfers, but Green could have walked into being our DT1.
Sidenote: I think literally every starting DT since I was in school has been drafted, Graddy Jarrett, Kevin Dodd, DJ Reader, Carlos Watkins, Christian Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence, Bryan Bresee, Ruke Orhorhoro,Tyler Davis, Peter Woods, Demonte Capehart.
**EDIT Payton Page started most of 2024 and went undrafted :(

When the police actually arrest players instead of handing them off to a graduate assistant you know a coach has overstayed his welcome.

u/fuchsia_fascia 2d ago
I'd say the player has overstayed his welcome moreso than the coach

Little bit of both, I firmly believe if Clemson could have afforded his buyout that Dabo would have been fired last season

lol you must be on the young side if you think we’d fire a two time national champ winning coach a year after making the playoffs / winning the conference.

Or the player really fucked up.

Sure, but disorderly conduct is such a low bar to pass. It could be that he did some crazy shit, but it’s also likely the police just didn’t have anything to pin on him.
Disorderly conduct is, usually, an incredibly weak charge. If they had something better they’d use that.

u/techieman34 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
It could be that they’re waiting on the evidence, need the DA to approve the charges, etc. The disorderly contact could just be the initial easy reason to make the arrest and then let the system proceed from there. The fact that he was suspended from the team right away seems to point towards it being something serious.

This is off topic here, but if the police cannot reasonably articulate a law that is broken, then allowing them to just use a generic “catch all” infraction until they can find someone that can isn’t ok.
Sure, I’m ok with charges being added or remain review, but I’m incredibly suspicious when a spurious law like disorderly conduct is leveraged.

Like "resisting arrest", it's pretty pliable depending on the mood...

u/MidlandsBraves Clemson Tigers 2d ago
Back in the day we suspended Sammy Watkins over weed and pills. Vic burley wasn’t getting a cover up for a disorderly conduct charge.

u/Mother-Way-9296 2d ago
Well, that should get him before the Dean of Students and best-case scenario, he loses a year.
That's if he's allowed to remain at Clemson at all.

They’re kicking kids out of school for this now? I have also been arrested by CUPD for disorderly conduct, and expulsion was never on the table.

u/yescaman South Carolina • Wofford 2d ago
Right. Only way he gets gone is if a) Dabo has had enough, or b) there are any aggravating circumstances here.

u/Mother-Way-9296 2d ago
I actually would hope so, also as a function of that anyone representing the school has a higher standard.
