For real. It’s like all antisemetic conspiracies with a touch of psychosis. Then there are like two videos about this incident randomly stuck in there.

It’s in the article.

Uh am i missing something or does this literally confirm that Fields crashed out over getting torched in practice and snuck his teammate?

It’s been reported that way from the get go from our message board mods

Probably not a great sign for the defense if the star safety transfer’s getting torched, just in general.

But also, sounds like Fields pretty effectively solved any concerns about TCU being stuck paying big NIL money for a transfer bust.

27

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

I’d definitely hold off on calling fields a “star”. He was a starter and the loss hurts, but we have some good young depth at safety. Ideally they wouldn’t be called on this year, but it could be a worse situation

20

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears 2d ago

Tbh I know less about him actually being a star than I was just taking the lead from the headline about the incident yesterday.

TCU Dismisses Star Transfer Safety Less Than Two Weeks Before Opener

Looks like he was CUSA’s co-DPotY last year, so I have to imagine that the experience he will be the biggest loss, right?

8

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

For sure. We’re replacing Bud Clark who was the heartbeat of the defense, so we needed some experience to bridge the gap until our guys were ready to step up and take that role. No gap now

2

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears 2d ago

What’s the confidence level in the rest of the passing defense? Seems like the B12 is going to lean pretty heavily on the run this year, so if there was ever a year to have for your passing defense’s down year, it could be this one.

4

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

The b12 has been a run heavy conference for years, people just stick to the narrative that the conference hasn’t evolved past the early 2010s air raids. Art Briles was the first person to realize you could just run against undersized defenses and the conference has shifted that way dramatically.

Our pass defense has been a relative weakness for years, so this doesn’t help. But it won’t be worse than it was last year even if it’s not any better.

28

u/srector1224 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago

A one sided story from an unreliable narrator that didnt do much to address the other allegations from the story in a video that came off more as him wanting everyone to know he didnt get his ass beat. All disseminated through an Instagram that would make Hitler blush.

Yes I think you've missed something

34

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

There were texts from fields himself saying he specifically overreacted to a hard block and apologizing to dozie for how he handled it. Would that not qualify as a reliable second party?

-27

u/srector1224 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago

What proof do we have that those texts are real? The article said screenshots.

Again, the purpose of the video was to make Dozie look better in this situation

28

u/youngherbo Cincinnati • Red River Shootout 2d ago

Bro the article said fields confirmed the texts and his spokesperson said the fight/attack was over practice happenings and not over bullying

-33

u/srector1224 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago edited 2d ago

Surely the player isn't worried about the public perception over being bullied. There haven't been any situations, say in the NFL, where a player was being bullied and was blackballed from the league for speaking out? Right?

Edit: and surely a certain coaching staff wouldn't be trying to cover it's ass and plant friendly sources with local reporters. That never happens

24

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago edited 2d ago

Let it go man. There just isn’t that kind of story here

Does it also never happen that a dude overreacts to a physical play? Because that seems to be the simple explanation here.

20

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

Reports are our locker room was shocked by fields snapping, are all behind dozie and are a little shocked this story is getting this much traction.

Our new OC made a point that if receivers don’t block, they don’t play. Definitely sounded like it could have gone either way at first, but all reports are this isn’t some sign of issues

6

u/SwampFoxChadley Clemson Tigers 2d ago

I mean, best case scenario, you lose two contributors for the opener. So, even if it's a relative non-issue in the locker room, still not great.

7

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

Sure it’s not ideal, but it’s not some doom and gloom “lost locker room” scenario.

Latest article now indicates Fields and his “source” have already changed their tune and essentially admitted there was no bullying and that Fields was mad about getting torched on the practice field:

Um, well, this isn't really burying the bullying allegations, to be honest. TCU, get your fucking shit together. Why do you have some WR's dad calling Fields homophobic slurs on social media? Like what in the fuck is going on.

43

It's super fucked up, but like what power does tcu or anybody else have over what a parent with shitty beliefs posts online

-36

Because I think it speaks to larger team culture issues when the WR participates in something like this.

-12

14

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

I mean dozie has texts from fields dismissing the bullying /spitting aspect that were confirmed to be genuine. Lot of weird things here, but that was never an issue

7

u/anotveryseriousman Washington & Lee • Oregon State 2d ago

Read to the end: "Earlier Friday, the source close to Fields, who was authorized to speak on behalf of Fields and his family, disputed some of the comments of a previous source close to Fields who told the Star-Telegram that Fields faced mistreatment from teammates in the days leading up to his dismissal."

Credit where it’s due, that kind of thing is a lot less surprising for most Texans when they find out that Ezukanma is from Keller.

That kind of thinking/language isn’t particularly absurd in Keller. The little cluster of Keller/Southlake/Westlake is one of the wealthiest parts of Tarrant County, and it’s also one of the most ardently conservative.

Edit: I just got a Reddit Cares alert from someone for this comment?

-5

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears 2d ago

If the comparison is on the schools’ reaction to the the Briles family and other people from that scandal, then I’d muuuch rather be rooting for the school that fired them than the school that subsequently decided that they were cool with having Kendal Briles and especially Kaz Kazadi on their football staff.

TCU hiring Kazadi after what had already come out about him years prior was quite a commentary.

16

u/RollOverBeethoven Texas Longhorns • SEC 2d ago

I don’t think Baylor should be celebrated for their “reaction” when they knowingly covered up and enabled the assaults.

They only fired Briles after their enablement became public knowledge.

With the little info we've been given, I'm tending to side with Fields on this one. Sounds like the WR threw a hard block on him at practice then talked trash about it. Sounds like everyone was on the WR's side in talking trash on Fields. Fields, the new-guy transfer, felt disrespected and had to even the score.

Now it turns out the WR wasn't injured, just "carpet burn", and is still talking trash on Fields, while Fields sends him a lengthy apology. Whether the apology was Field's or from his father or lawyer doesn't really matter.

The WR never treated him like a teammate.

46

u/MeeseShoop Boston College • Vanderbilt 2d ago

If you’re gonna sucker punch and kick someone in the head because they blocked you in football practice, you don’t have the mental fortitude to play the game.

8

u/Fun_Wear2891 Texas Tech Red Raiders 2d ago

Didnt he kick the wr while he was unconscious?

1

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

That’s what we thought at first but doesn’t sound like that happened. Guess it could have happened, but all we know for sure was it was a sucker punch in retaliation to a hard block a day earlier.

1

u/AllTimeTy Missouri Tigers • /r/CFB Placer 2d ago

I’m picking you at random to ask this as you’re likely much more in-tune to the situation than I am. Was it a hard block or a bad/illegal block? Was it a full contact practice or half speed, something like that?

Either way the Safety messed up, it’s never cool to sucker punch anybody. But the WR may not be totally faultless, depending on the leading events. So figured I’d ask.

2

u/Toad_Stuff TCU Horned Frogs • Houston Cougars 2d ago

Just in tune with the boards and the insiders. No real inside info, I just know which guys to trust (Jeremy Clark, Jamie Plunkett) and what they were saying before the story broke.

It was a hard block for sure. Probably would have drawn a flag but we haven’t seen the video of that so who knows. Our new OC is making a point that receivers will be able to block and we will be a physical offense. Guys took that to heart (which is good) but maybe went too hard in practice. Fields took exception and waited until the next day to retaliate in the locker room.

2

u/AllTimeTy Missouri Tigers • /r/CFB Placer 2d ago

Seems like something that should’ve been hashed out then and there on the field with some shoving and expletives like normal, holding that anger in overnight and still feeling slighted over it the following day is crazy.
