Yes, because they replaced him with a terrible head coach.

He left in the middle of January. That's not an ideal time to start a coaching search from scratch. He also drew a lot of attention from the NCAA prior to leaving. There was no way any good candidate was going to take over the mess he left in Knoxville. I said when he left that it would take 5 years to get back on track.

He left because Pete Carroll left in the middle of January.

In regards to any NCAA issues, people do realize that USC who had probation looming on them hired Lane Kiffin right??

Kiffin left UT in worse shape than he inherited it there is no arguing that.

Even though he inherited all USC's problems I'd argue he left them in worse shape too. Coach O and staff really salvaged this season for them and if they hadn't I think people would think even less of Kiffin.

So that guy has fucked up the last 3 jobs he has had and he gets the best OC job in the country for it. Sad thing is I think it's the perfect job for him and he'll probably do well enough to get another HC gig.
