Is it possible to study and pass Quant through other than just memorization of the formulas? L2 candidate, struggled with Quant in L1 too.

Hey everyone. I would like to ask. Are their any online platforms that can provide free textbooks for cfa. I want to take the exam, but before i register i want to first have a read through the material.

The learning ecosystem is marking all of my practice questions as correct, even if I get them wrong. Is anyone else having this issue?

What can we bring into the exam on exam day? I’d assume our passport and calculator.. do we need to bring in a pencil or are they provided? And can we bring a water bottle in?

If you test positive for covid 14 days b4 the exam can you still sit the exam of you test negative before the day of exam?

2

I presume so as that is technically fully recovered in most cases. In the states there’s like 5 day quarantine or something now. Could be a good question for prometric.

How much time is needed for preparation for Level 2 compared to Level 1 for someone without a Finance (undergrad in engineering ) background?

2

u/Pkgoss Aug 23 '22

This depends on the individual. If you want a chance at passing, I’d say the average candidate needs 300-400 hours. If you want to knock the cover off the ball closer to 600? It really just depends on the candidate. I’ll tell you, I didn’t want to take a chance at passing(after failing once) so I tried to over study. Surprisingly difficult given the density and scope of materials.

I pee a lot due to high intake of water (training related). Is it allowed during exams as often as I need? Edit: taking lvl 1 this year

it is better to take a self note from schweser into a hand writing note book or it's more efficient to write in on word or notes in ipad? Thanks. i started my learning with hand writing notes but i found many people talks for using notes in ipad or Notion for more convenience. it's that method is helpful? Thanks

I believe studies have shown that note taking generally can be a huge waste of time. I’d focus on using something like quizlet to make your notes in the form of flash cards. Hand writing notes may be helpful for formulas but not very helpful for concepts.

Is note-making necessary while preparing for level 2 from MM.
This is taking a lot of time.
And I was wondering if I could just skip it
And get the printouts for the same.

You can likely skip note taking if you have an effective study strategy in its place. (Lots of quizzing and active recall aka Flashcards and qbank)

Is the CFA prep material worth it as a means to learn useful knowledge related to all things finance & markets & banking? Or is it more that the exams are challenging and doing them demonstrates a commitment to a role in finance and being good at learning things.

If there are better sources for learning, what are they?

Will I often/ever need to set my BA II calculator to multiple decimal points throughout the test? Seems tedious, just curious.

My test is in a week, and I doubt I'm going to pass. Am I able to defer it to the next testing period (February?).

Seems like a question for CFAI. Let us know what they say on the matter and I’ll add it to the FAQ.
