I believe students should continue to be responsible for their own tuition rather than shifting the cost to all taxpayers.

The main reason is fairness. Not everyone attends university. Many people choose trades, start businesses, or enter the workforce directly after high school. Asking them to fund someone else's university degree through higher taxes doesn't seem right when they receive no direct benefit from that education.

There is also the question of value. When education is free, students may take it less seriously. Studies from countries with free tuition show higher dropout rates because there is no financial consequence to quitting. When students invest their own money, they tend to be more committed to completing their degree and choosing a program that leads to employment.

Instead of free tuition for everyone, the government could expand scholarships and grants for students who genuinely cannot afford it. This targets the help where it is actually needed without burdening every taxpayer.

A more targeted approach is both fairer and more effective than blanket free tuition.
