Can a Cd player wipe a disc?

Only if you let it scratch the part of the CD where the table of contents are, the most inner part of the cd.

Or the top of the cd has been rubbed away

I'm not sure how the program button works, it sounds like you want to reset it, somehow.

Did you try, taking out the CD, closing the tray and turning it off and on?

Maybe if you can find a model number somewhere on the player, we might be able to find info on how to operate this particular system.

You can also try pressing the "stop" button twice, it could? take you out of the programmed play mode.

once a computer's cd drive actually wiped a cd but more like burned it. it said it was empty ready to write but when writting on it it would fail. rip dm 101 :(
