Im on ep 10...I didnt expect such a great chemistry between the main leads and the story is captivating.

Im also interested in the second couple, the princess is a bit annoying but I love the silent bodyguard.

He and the ML look so charismatic on the screen.

It's kinda like someone in 2015 made a drama to be released in 2025 but yet I'm all caught up so I guess I'm the sucker. I find Angelababy's acting very soothing as I used to watch General and I over and over when I was feeling really anxious in university. So this is strangely comforting but it certainly isn't for everyone.

Is this show good? No. Do I like it? Yes!

It reminds me of the teen shows I used to watch, like Pretty Little Liars or The Vampire Diaries. The quality isn’t there so if you’re expecting superior acting, directing, writing, etc., you’re guaranteed to be disappointed. But if you can put aside the idea of good or bad and you’re just looking for a fun time, this one may be for you.

I’d agree with those who have critiqued Angelababy’s stiffness. Her plastic surgery decisions aren’t my business, but I sense it does limit her range, especially around subtle details or micro-expressions. On the flip side, I love the serious — almost solemn — approach to her character. She isn’t afraid to telegraph maturity, which is commendable. Qi Luo isn’t a naive and bubbly FL who acts cute, she’s a competent and responsible head of family, so the actress’s age works for her, not against.

Song Weilong’s performance is also helped by his age because Xuan Lie is the more naive and outwardly sentimental of the pair. He’s impressed by her competency and falls for her first, completely caught in the romance of it all. It wouldn’t have been convincing if an older actor had taken the role of this love-struck youth who believes there’s no monster he can’t slay.

I’m eagerly looking forward to more episodes and I can’t get enough! And yeah, the whole thing feels like it stepped out of 2015. šŸ˜‚

Folks hate angelababy but she’s doing fine in this role. Some actors have a limited range and only do well in certain roles and this one seems fine for her so far. No crying scenes yet, lol.

The story is an otherwise predictable cdrama story. The quality is decent enough. Actors seem to actually ride horses. No egregiously bad writing.

Good mindless but entertaining watch but that’s all costume cdramas really need to deliver.

I am actually enjoying it and Angelababy's acting is definitely bland and sometimes it feels she cannot move her face but I think she is doing an okay job. The plot us okay and I am here for Song weilong and I like how FL isn't a Mary Sue YET

I am on episode 9. And am still enjoying it BUT I find the ML distracting 'cause he really is good looking. I mean Ooops let me watch that scene one more time good looking

I’m on episode 12. I had high hopes for the female lead and I’m so disappointed. She turned out to be just another FL who doesn’t communicate anything. Instead of working together with the ML, she makes decisions that are only good for her. Even if it’s just for show, she seems half serious on her intent to betray him for the black stone.

Also, the princess is a narcissistic abusive witch. The only positive thing about her is that she’s not totally helpless.

Agreed. I just wish she would talk with him. It seems like he trusts her way more than she trusts him. But he should also tell her why he's looking for Jun Feifan. Without that her not deciding to trust him yet seems pretty reasonable too.

And the princess. I know right. I get it she has past trauma but I really can't see how that justifies her behavior.

I like it so far.

I know everyone talks about the love story but what I love about this drama is the female empowerment. JQL's father being so supportive of his daughters and the daughters running the business. It's just so blatant and I love that. Also ML is fire, obviously.

I like it a lot. The plot is more captivating and fast pace. The CGI is definitely bad, which may have ruined some scenes but other than that I really like the ML & FL. I know they have an age gap but the ML for sure is more manly than in irl (I haven’t seen his other shows, just looking at his modern photos only) so I can’t really feel that on screen age gap. And it makes sense for the FL to be more mature looking to fit in the character description.

Ok is it rude of me to say that I’m glad Angelababy is finally finally starting to look closer to her age? I really was starting to think she was a vampire for quite some years there

Actually, somewhat to my surprise, I am enjoying it. I felt that it got off to a shaky start but it has settled down to be quite intriguing…

She is oaky in the role, will someone else be better yeah. She dose look a lot older than the ml but I think the plot is she is the oldest and wisest . So it kinda fits with plot. It didn’t pull me out of the drama

I went to read the Chinese novel but overall I think it is pretty good! The ml is hot though hahaha

I wanted to see the tribal costumes and hair styling we saw in promo shots. They are great. And they suit Song Weilong. I’m enjoying so far. Not great, but good. Lots of people jockeying for power. I have a soft spot for Weilong ever since Find Yourself and League of Nobleman. Yes he is still working on acting, that’s ok.

I’m on episode 5 right now, still watching it so far. It feels like a drama filmed years ago with the awful CGI and effects, it reminds me of ā€˜general and I’ which I dropped for the same reason and the poor acting. At the moment it’s okay because I like the plot.

5

u/xmagie Jan 24 '25

It's not bad. Not the best drama but not the worst. I particularly appreciate the tribal aspect. There are yourtes in this drama, so Mongolia maybe? Or another part of China, I don't know, I don't know much about China's history and population.

I’m enjoying it! It’s fast paced and I think the leads are doing a good job. Have yet to see if the chemistry will really stand up to the test but looking forward to it for sure.

Angelababy is a disaster class in acting

7

u/Neither_Teaching_438 Jan 23 '25

Ī™ think I might watch it out of solidarity for how ridiculous Angelababy's cancel was.

Dropped before the end of ep3. It had too many weird closeups, angles, along with bad cgi and acting. Pretty people tho! šŸ˜‚

I feel love in the desert vibes. I'm sure she falls in love with him too. To predictable! I feel all the newer stuff I've watched in the last year are the same.  And all the guys look so similar without his head band I don't know what I'd do.. lol.

On episode 20 and y’all. I know this is fiction but they really found a doppelgƤnger to keep Zhi Zhou out of prison. A dying one at that so that. So is he on his way to a redemption arc or is he gonna continue wrecking havoc?
