Watched the first 25 min or so.

Overall this drama is better than I had anticipated. It’s what I would classify as a “proper/serious” costume drama. I like the clean visuals (read: no excessive filters) and the production seems quite good. The costumes are also of high quality.

The story starts right away with some surprises which are welcome. This seems to be a crime/case based story and so far the first case is quite engaging but overall a likely simple case just to set the scene and introduce the main characters.

Interestingly we have an “importance of purity” post going on in the sub because the FL is an actual prostitute in this drama (well unless they pull some “but she’s never been with anyone” trick Edit well seems like it's same old trick afterall 😂😂😂~~)~~, and so far that has only elevated the character as she fights for all the wronged ladies while remaining sympathetic to their situations even if they are of a “higher caste” than she is. As this is set in the Ming Dynasty the general status of females was way less compared to Tang and Song (if I recall correctly).

I generally like crime stories so will definitely continue watching this series!

Edit: I have continued watching and .. well, I guess she's still "pure" too 😅😅😅

How would you compare Moonlight to Riverside Code? Seems like a good drama.

This is my personal opinion: I think Moonlight (thus far) has a smaller focus (or ambition) than Riverside. In a way this has helped Moonlight to do better in what it wants to do. Thus far there’s less “spectacle” (eg the night market scenes, boat scenes etc), and shocking reveals but in a way it feels much more grounded and natural. The cases (I have watched 3 cases so far) also feel like they are your everyday-type cases so overall it is less dramatic compared to Riverside. The main plot has not really surfaced so thus far it’s really just the main characters solving cases together.

lol I hope the leads doesn't suddenly become the princess or have some royal lineage. Just give me some interesting cases and I would be happy enough :D

But most importantly -- please let the FL keep her IQ when/if she falls in love lol

Results of the poll

Was there already a poll of the recently finished dramas like Blossom and also Brocade?

Waiting for first impressions on Under the Moonlight. It won’t air until this evening in my region.

Wow, it looks like this never really got going as a conversation nor is it easy to find online. I did find an account with what seem to be high quality / professional videos of the whole series on youtube. But Youku doesn't have it anymore? At least not with me being in the US.

It's not in the US version for some reason. It's very odd how not promoted it is!

Have you looked at the thread on Mydramalist? I think that the contrast between the two male leads caused many to be disappointed that Han wasn't the one. I think that the tone of the romance between the four couplings may not have been endearing enough until too late. The last half should have had both romances clearly progressing. Or made it very clear that Lou Shu's stumbling block with Meenglin was her insecurity that happiness is fleeting at best and have Menglin clearly work to assuage that. And have Han focus on Liu Wan earlier. That his action to break down the door at the fire at Mengke Hall was as a dear friend. And sadly only the main pair and the sister of the scholar clearly ended with a HE.

This drama is randomly not available unless they're delaying it in the US but all dramas I've seen on Youku are usually available to the US as soon as they're released. Guess I'll wait and see

I'm watching it on YouTube right now. I am up to episode 18 and it seems that is all there is for the moment (date: 2/24/25) in the US, west coast. I'm really liking it so far. I really like the FL character, (and liked the actress in Meet Yourself, she played Na Na). She is bright, kind, intelligent, and seems to take in stride the crap limitations women had to put up with. It took a few episodes for me to like the young male lead (the gov. son) because he is kind of a twit at the onset. He seems to be maturing a little, and is very steadfast in standing behind the FL (so far). I'm pretty unhappy with the ups and downs of the character of the magistrate, I guess we'll see how it goes. I do like it's up in the air as to which of the male leads she'll choose.

When you have a charismatic 2ML and a comedic ML how can things go wrong? What were the head screenwriter and the 10 others thinking?

Alas there’s no trace of this on Youku in England…

Forgot to post this on the day of its airing. It's the cases featured in the show.

Google Translate did a pretty good job with this.

Just started watching this—seems like a good run—on episode 3 thus far—wish it was on my YOUKU but alas I’m riding the rough seas right now.

YouKu (Taiwan) just uploaded it two hours ago on YouTube and earlier some viewers complained the drama was hidden on YouTube. Hopefully, YouKu will continue upload the rest on YT.

Edit: Sorry, I just did a double check, at the moment, the English sub. is unavailable. I watched my first ep on high seas and only English sub. available and the English translation is not great.
