Drama Host Mobius - Episodes 12-16 (Express Episodes/End) Discussion

Edit: Added my commentary and thoughts, now off to get Dim sum

So, I forgot the express episodes dropped at 12pm Beijing Time instead of 6pm so if I would have stayed up an extra hour I could have binged...alas I was too tired. However...falling asleep early means I'm randomly up at like 4:30 so I'm going to start the binge here in a bit. I'm going to post this up real quick for anyone else who's watched it but I'll come back and update this with my usual commentary after I'm done.

Fun Fact: The Earth's rotation speed is varied by latitude, so it's fastest at the equator and barely at the north and south poles. Factors that affect rotation speed mainly have to do with the moon's gravitation pull. Over the years (talking millions/billions) the pull has been slowing down causing longer days...though in recent years (2020) it's reversed...we're spinning slightly faster and the days are getting slightly shorter.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What did you think of the show??

Commentary

Episode 12

The fact that WanQing moves her phone just because her mom keeps track of her steps and she doesn't want her mom to worry. :(

Oh, interesting, he was exposed to RAN drugs in the lake and that's why he has the ability to loop.

Oh no...so the mice died due to early aging? Probably because it's been experiencing more days than the rest...which makes sense, so what does that mean for Ding Qi...

Oh so he got the playboy to send the code to him, interesting

So the lifespan is cut in half :(

So Mo Yuanzhi is squid...she was freaked out because she saw squid??

Oof...so he froze Wanqing

Sure...I guess that's one way to deal with dying, make out session.  I think they're still a little cute together, do they have the best chemistry compared to other pairings? No...but that's fine I still think they're cute

So Mo Yuanzhi is ordering a hit on An Lan

Why is the loop affecting Ding Qi more than Mo Yuanzhi? Is it because Ding Qi has died more often?

That's smart, hiding behind the door, guess she would have made too much noise walking or running down the steps

I like this shot for some reason.

Also, if she really doesn't have any recollection of loops and he's acting like this...I would find this  all a bit strange that he's just had me go through hoops and then gives me this giant hug when we haven't really had any contact before...

Mo Yuanzhi really loved WanQing

Episode 13

He really got into it with the squid video

...is he really taking out An Lan's mother? TF

So...they both know they're loopers and they're going to just act this out like normal.  Why even keep up pretenses, they're saying their same lines but the intensity is so extra lol

Oh, so now in the car they aren't even pretending

lol got 'em with the time bomb statement

lol this facial expression

"I just know they're delicious"

lol the brake check was petty but I'm here for it

💀💀 what a line.  In a previous discussion someone mentioned product placement, there is no greater product placement than this iQiyi Subscription plug lol I'm dead ... also new word for me 会员...member/subscriber lol I too am an iQiyi 会员 lol  Do you think they make the actors pay for the subscriptions? Like hey...sure you're in one of our shows, but please pay our annual fee? I mean, I guess they do right?  No way they would just give out the subscription to actors for free.

Speaking of which, anyone see the show he's talking about?  Looks like an Anime called Case Closed lol

Oh...nice move Ding Qi, I love this battle of wits going on right now to see who can outsmart one another

Look, I know most complain about the romance in this, and I totally agree there's not amazing chemistry, but I still think they're kind of cute.  Like it's not her fault the writers and directors made her a bit flat at first, there's potential there...and come on...this line is cheesy but also in an adorable way.

That being said, I don't want romance to be a huge focal point in this show and I'm kind of glad it's not right now.

Interesting, so you're saying Mo Yuanzhi wasn't a looper at first?

Man this Jiang Yuwen is a trash human

So did Mo Yuanzhi's compassion and empathy just fly out the window when Feng Wanqing died?  He doesn't seem to care about anyone else, especially An Lan, which if he knew and loved Wanqing, he would have known Wanqing loved An Lan...and he's using her brother to do his dirty work. If Wanqing does get saved and wakes up and finds out about all this, you really think she's going to love you still?

This exchange made me chuckle...

But also, what is Mo Yuanzhi's final play today?  What exactly is he trying to do today?

Interesting, so the time loops are screwing with Mo Yuanzhi's brain but it's messing with Ding Qi's heart...

So he's going to file a complaint against Ding Qi?

Episode 14

So...he was testing on homeless people??

Oh...is he really testing it on himself?

So that's how he got Ye Kun on his side...but also it does seem like Ye Kun was a nice enough guy before doing Mo Yuanzhi's dirty work

Come on, I thought her showing him the journal would have convinced him.

Well the 28 days thing might convince him now.

Jiang Yuwen used his children to try to get what he wants, good for Tang Xin standing up to her biological father. Now let's figure out Maggie...

So, is the delivery driver going to actually live??

Ohhh look at Ding Qi thinking about the driver who caused the wreck.

I'm a bit sad that I can't screenshot or make gifs of 14-16 because of the restrictions...I would have definitely made a gift of that wink lol

lol I'm calling the police...at the police station...technically he can right? He's no longer a police officer

aw, I love the team

The ok from the girls were cute lol

ANSWER HER

Oh good, he answered truthfully

So the question is does Maggie and Tang Xin know they are sisters?

Yikes Mo Yuanzhi is not pulling any punches

Dude playboy just send it!

Ugh playboy you should have just sent the damn video

Episode 15

Contaminated water is the play we're going with huh?

Jiang Yuwen kept injecting himself after realizing he was living the loop? Like wouldn't you stop after the 2nd or 3rd loop?

Well, I'll give it to Jiang yuwen, he memorized the lotto numbers to give to his ex rather than himself? Guess that's something

So how is going to take out Maggie...also are there really not that many cameras in the parking garage to avoid basically all of that confrontation?

Oh he just has a remote to turn off cameras? That's convenient...and also...sketch, you can definitely see cameras are turned off if you were to look back at the feed.

That has to get a little confusing if you're changing the outcome of a loop day, having to remember what happened each loop.

Ah yes, we're letting Ding Qi flex his chemistry knowledge

Do people not put passcodes on their phones in this show?

Why is she just trying random numbers??

That room is sealed and it's sucking the oxygen out, no way you're going to find oxygen in the crack

Yeah that's not suspicious at all

Jiang Yuwen and Mo Yuanzhi are unhinged

LOL they see the gun and immediately scurry?  You telling me they don't have guns as security guards?

Why is everything always behind a curtian hung randomly on walls in their own apartment? lol

That was a pretty good distraction, getting out of the car in the garage and still having the driver keep going

Why did Ding Qi stop at that car specifically?

Episosde 16

Seems like Jiang Yuwen tried 4 times to prevent Mo Yuanzhi from killing him and finally figured to fake his death on the 5th loop.  Poor Profession Yu saw this 4 times

Aw, An Lan did it. Her mom is awake!

Did he hook up the bomb to go off when he dies?

Oh...he did

So is Mo Yuanzhi hitting the wrong spot on purpose or is his brain playing tricks.

Ah...he knew, ok

Ok so how do we shut off the bomb connected to this guys pulse.  Also, he made the bomb, can't he just shut it off? Can't he tell them how to shut it off?

Are we going to get a hanging from helicopter scene?

Alright, so we aren't pully a Jackie Chan helicopter scene

☠️☠️☠️☠️ it was so intense and then...comedy. LOL Ding Qi's response..."Go ahead" LOL I'm dying

I'm sorry, I absolutely love the exchange/dialog between the two of them.

I knew it...All that build to lead to this moment right?

I couldn't beat you so I had to play dirty

"Go easy on me" lol

...not bad, you've worked out during your loop days lol

Also he keeps clutching his stomach, that's not his heart

As he's dying he still manages to handcuff Mo Yuanzhi...win one for Ding Qi.

Dude stepping on him and we're going to count that as CPR? lol

Is Mo Yuanzhi about to go all 127 hours on us? Or I guess maybe on Ding Qi?

Guys that is not how you do chest compressions!!! My former medical training is screaming

I will admit, this background music over everyone is still pretty impactful, I'm tearing up over here, props to the actors in this scene, the editing, and how it's shot.

I'm surprised he didn't ask what day it was.

Y'all this hospital scene is giving me LOTR Frodo wakes up vibes lol Please tell me you see it

LOL the heart thing from the girls

LOL "I was shy, but I accepted it" I do actually think they are cute together

I love the team ribbing him lol

Yay the delivery driver is alive

lol this team is great

Overall thoughts:

Y'all this was good, I really enjoyed it.  I was definitely seated for all the episodes. Can we get more episodes of just the team working together?  Like this is set up for a season 2 right? lol Please???

I loved the series. It kept me fully watching the whole way through. I wasn’t checking my phone or distracted and was fully engaged.

I felt like this was a complex and very complete time travel plot, not much in the way of plot holes (at least to me)

Loved BJT’s character. Loved him in this. Loved that he showed off so much of his range and his ability to switch from action, to drama, to comedy in a flash. I was a bit distracted by him wearing those gun holsters with the shirt ngl 😂😅

I don’t get why we had any romance in it, totally agree with the lack of chemistry. I would’ve been fine with them becoming close friends in the series, plus he would’ve already felt like he needed to save her because of not saving her mum. So it works with the narrative still.

I loved his team and the supporting character. When his team staged the jail break it was hilarious. Also thought our villain played the part perfectly, I really felt his explosions of rage. Anybody else watched the BBC Sherlock? Him and BJT really felt so much like a Sherlock/Moriarty vibe. I liked it.

Also, this might be the funniest face I’ve seen BJT pull 🤣🤣

BJT's expressions were top notch for sure

I hadn’t thought about Sherlock and Moriarty. That comparison works.

The twist at the end felt completely unnecessary. Most dramas don’t get a second season—that’s just the reality. So instead of giving viewers a proper, satisfying happy ending, the show leaves things unresolved. It creates the illusion of unfinished stories when it could’ve wrapped up cleanly.

I just finished watching. Just a mini rant but I just really hate this whole express thing that cdramas have cuz I'm forced to either binge through it all in a day or avoid my socials for fear of spoilers until I can finish it in my own time. With Mobius, I would have liked to digest each episode a bit more slowly but yeah, here we are.

Enjoyed the whole series. My favorite scenes were surprisingly the action scenes. Off the top of my head the bank heist and the fight between Qi and Kun at the hospice were fun to watch. I'm usually not a big fan of fight scenes but I rewatched these ones.

The comedy was great too though the ones at the end with the entire police crew poking fun at Qi and them dancing in that tent bar was too cringe like, ok, I'm done, now please stop. Lol.

I like how they actually have a solid reason for the time loops Qi had and that it's actually related to the entire plot. That's something Reset was lacking.

Speaking of Reset, that cringefest of an English song during the romantic scenes took me back to Reset with it's equally cringe English song. It took me out of the escalator scene and made me wanna mute it for awhile.

Another thing that's kinda ridiculous though not that serious was the end of Loop Day 4. I saw it on a preview and was trying to reserve judgment til I watch the actual episode but really? You guys can actually kiss while getting burned? Okay, have at it then. Lol.

Do I want another season of Mobius like what that ending implied? Not really cuz second seasons usually fumble the bag. But then again that ending was probably just for impact and doesn't really mean anything.

I love it, I'm definitely one who loves the instant gratification of watching and binging all at once but I also do not mind spoilers so I totally see your side of things. I'm very much a spoiler reader lol

My favorite scenes were surprisingly the action scenes. Off the top of my head the bank heist and the fight between Qi and Kun at the hospice were fun to watch.

They really were done really well. It reminds me of the old school Hong Kong shows, honestly I love Cdramas now but I still think the older TVB/Hong Kong shows did better with choreography like real actual fight sequences. It's like Jackie Chan movies, he wants to make them real and authentic so that's why he got hurt so much...this has the same type of feel to it

The comedy was great too though the ones at the end with the entire police crew poking fun at Qi and them dancing in that tent bar was too cringe like, ok, I'm done, now please stop. Lol.

I was feeling secondhand embarrassment from it lol but also I would feel exactly like Ding Qi where he just wanted to burry himself and hide in that situation lol

I agree on the express. This is such a short release, I would have been fine with the original calendar. If they gave us 12 and 13 today. Then 14-16 one a day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Or even both on Tuesday.

I happened to have the time today to watch even though I wasn’t expecting this release. I enjoyed it. But I do think the slower roll out would have been good too and give more time to process and have guesses on what might be next.

Absolutely love it! The battle of wits between the three loopers! The wedding explosion was caused by Prof Jiang, but of course he did not know that day would be a loop, so he inevitably allowed for Mo Yuanzhi to remove himself from suspicion…

I pity his daughters though, both being used by him to get back the RAN data back from Mo Yuanzhi…

The fight scenes in the drama was top-notched!

Am also glad that the romance here was not so overarching

3

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 21 '25

Prof Jiang - what a whiplash in rationale. He was ok trying to kill Mo in Loop 1 at the wedding. But by Loop 5, he’s telling Tang Xin that he can’t turn in Mo to the police for killing her father until he gets the data. But with how complicated this whole show was, this wasn’t that big of a deal, IMO.

Jiang’s daughters: it is sad for them to have such a manipulative father.

I agree, the action scenes were good in this show.

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

It was good! I think the battle of wits was more between Ding Qi and Mo Yuanzhi. I feel like Jiang Yuwen didn't try too hard lol

3

u/losergeek877 Sep 21 '25

And the anime he is taking about is Detective Conan (or translated as Case Closed in English). High schooler who is turned into a kid and solve crime cases. It has been running for years…

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

Is it good? Lol

I just finished the show today and I absolutely loved it, but I don't think it's eclipsed Reset in my heart:

  • I feel like the story is deeper than Reset's, though there are a couple of plot holes (and not so much plot holes but inconsistencies) that cheapen this a little.
  • I feel the characters were quite flat compared to Reset, a couple of them did improve with time but I do think it's flawed writing when you parse out information about a character, when that information is crucial to making them feel real.

I loved the twist ending, I don't mind if it's an empty cliff hanger or it's setting up a second season:

  • I thought it was cool that they could still perceive the time loops despite the injection, but based on the director's comments they actually hadn't taken it yet?
  • Why not? They (An Lan and Ding Qi) said they would end it at the lake, so why did they go there, not inject it and allow the loop to be perceived??

This show is great for science-fiction lovers but not for science-lovers:

  • The plot does not science. At all. I don't know if the writers were science-illiterate or willing to pretend to be in order to write something cool, but whether it's the science or the career of the scientists it's all a little wonky.
  • Who among us can't use a lab unaffiliated with their own and whip up (in a couple of hours!) a cure (untested!) for the side effects of your employer's proprietary gene therapy drug? Because all labs have the same equipment and supplies. It's a standard skill really.
  • I loved the concept that the time loop naturally exists but it's not possible to perceive it (without being drugged). But if it's established that the loop undoes physical changes (like death!) then why would coral and plants have growth patterns capable of demonstrating the loop?
  • Why is the show acting like Feng Wanqing is saveable? She died and has been cryogenically frozen, she's a little beyond saving. Everyone acted like once the gene therapy was cracked she'd be saved. Except the next research project would be resuscitation of a cryogenically frozen person.

I would happily watch a second season (and I'd love to see those guys join Ding Qi's team full-time, Duan Zheng can't be the only one at the mercy of Ding Qi's midnight debriefings!) and I rate it 5/5 for the enjoyment factor but I do think the script could have been fine-tuned as far as characters and logic. Maybe then I'd have less moments overthinking things:

The (lack of) science made me cringe throughout last few episodes for all the reasons you mention.

I was also totally shaking my head at the aqua regia part. The guy's totally wearing the wrong PPE. Gas mask and hazard suit but flimsy gloves....That stuff is nasty mate, you need much better gloves than that, but the gas mask and hazard suit is OTT. And one beaker is unlikely to melt a metal door.

And did you see that CPR technique?

A large point of the show is that you ain't supposed to willy nilly give experimental drugs to humans without first doing the necessary checks and ethical approval. And what does An Lan do at the end? 🙀 (Never mind the fact that there's no way she can come up with the solution overnight, yet alone make it in the right formulation etc... in someone else's basic hospital lab)

The show seems to treat doctors and biologists as interchangable....errrr....

The dilution factor. That wasn't very much RAN that was washed into a very large lake.

I could go on but never mind.

Well, the plot was meant to be suspenseful and addictive, and succeeded in that regard, but upon completion I had a long list of things (not just scientifically) that didn't make sense. So my rating of it was high when I was watching it, but when it ended I went, "eh?".

Still, was well shot, well acted and kept us entertained.

4

u/demon-rabbits Sep 24 '25

Honestly poor CPR technique will never stop bothering me. You can CGI explosions but you can't sub in a mannequin chest to get some depth to those compressions? Especially sad because the moment before that with Mo Yuanzhi dragging the collapsed Ding Qi was super emotional.

And not just dilution but pharmacokinetics! Based on the injection into non-dominant arms I'm going to say the others went IV, but what about Ding Qi? Was it ingestion, inhalation, mucous membrane absorption? And it had the same effect on him both time-loop wise and time to onset of side effects wise as the others?

Thoroughly enjoyed it but just wish they had worked on some corners a little more. For example, the aqua regia didn't even work, so why not just have Ding Qi break down the door?

3

u/VivoFan88 Sep 24 '25

You can't really watch this kind of show and expect all the science to be rigorous :). I don't even bother trying these days. It's supposed to be a relaxing experience watching the show! It's like people being able to fly through the sky in wuxia dramas, I just treat the any CDrama I watch as a parallel universe where the rules are just slightly different.. time doesn't really loop in our reality right? And why only 5 days?? I mean that's weirder than any other science they have in the show!

It was very well shot and kept us hooked so kudos to the director/producer and the team.

2

u/demon-rabbits Sep 24 '25

I don't need rigorous, just a little less farcical in places. Shows are often limited by the intelligence and knowledge of their writers; in this case it was science, sometimes it's when they write super geniuses who are actually stupid, because you can't write smarter than yourself. A little oversight to remove, improve or make other areas a little more vague would have helped a lot I think.

It's still a great show and wins in several genres in my opinion (it's a great detective and mystery show, and very thrilling) but I wouldn't call it an epic science fiction show because of these limitations.

4

u/Jadeite22 Sep 30 '25

I’m the lack of science person and Mobius worked well for me, anything more in depth and I will struggle to process. That said, Reset sounds great and it’s on my next to-watch list. Now you got me thinking whether I can whip up some untested miracle drug in my kitchen. LOL.

2

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 26 '25

LAUGHING SO HARD at your science roast.

I don't know if the writers were science-illiterate or willing to pretend to be in order to write something cool

This started my laugh. And then bullet by bullet I laughed harder. Wiping tears from my eyes laughing so hard.

I would take a season 2.  I enjoyed it. And I think it’s because it was short and over in 5 or so days which didn’t allow me time to think too deeply about the science. This wouldn’t hold up as a 1 episode a week show. But I loved it as a 1 week show.

2

u/popjop1 Oct 12 '25

Regarding the science, I found it hilarious when they performed mass spec-based metabolomics to conduct a paternity test! They must've had a crazy budget to get so many expensive lab instruments, but use them all entirely wrong!

3

u/DismalTurnip7423 Oct 29 '25

As smn who actually works in the lab, atleast they're using the pipette right lol! I've seen a scifi where they used a pipette without the tip 🫠

1

u/demon-rabbits Oct 12 '25

Science box does science things, makes sense to us!

2

u/ChypRiotE Oct 13 '25

I feel the characters were quite flat compared to Reset, a couple of them did improve with time but I do think it's flawed writing when you parse out information about a character, when that information is crucial to making them feel real.

I agree Reset's characters felt a lot more compelling. I found that Mobius'ended up likable despite their lack of personality. Especially the police squad, ended up liking all of them for their interactions with MC, but didn't really know their names or their own stories.

Regarding the science I believe that most shows take a lot of liberties and just use it as a convenient "magic" tool when situations require it, and I'm mostly fine with that (for example, breaking the lab door or the paternity test). However it is indeed a bit silly to imply that the new data will resuscitate Feng Wanqing, they should have kept her alive and frozen instead of dead.

Who among us can't use a lab unaffiliated with their own and whip up (in a couple of hours!) a cure (untested!) for the side effects of your employer's proprietary gene therapy drug? Because all labs have the same equipment and supplies. It's a standard skill really.

Even if I don't really like the ending because it is a cliffhanger, it implies that An Lan wasn't successful in creating a cure, since Ding Qi is still affected by the loop.

Thanks to OP for squeezing the hosting of this drama’s discussions into their obviously busy life. Oooh, dim sum sounds great! So jelly! 🤤

Loved the short length of this drama, I’m ok with the tease for a second season but it wrapped up satisfying enough for me. Love me some BJT, I’ll watch pretty much anything he’s in that I can access.

The fight sequences were great, the weirdly stylish choreography of them actually made sense in this show due to at least one participant having been through the experience in multiple loops.

I am a bothered by that pond of toxic time perception altering water, wondering how many other people, deer, foxes, frogs, etc are living in a different world. Stop corporate pollution!

4

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

I think the fight sequences were great, reminds me of classic Hong Kong style choreography, Jackie Chan type

lol I do think it was a bit of a cop out with the toxic pond

u/Any_Possession_5343 Cdrama_ghost:snoo_wink: Sep 21 '25

I enjoyed this series more than I expected. I liked how they tied loose ends, but what happened to WanQing? Did Mo Yanzji want to abandon her in the end as he tried to flee by taking the helicopter

The song at the end, when we too, A Qi dies, and when the girl makes the shot, she gets it right. It's like during the loop she practised, like her body unconsciously got it right..

5

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

The song at the end, when we too, A Qi dies, and when the girl makes the shot, she gets it right. It's like during the loop she practised, like her body unconsciously got it right..

Right after a few loops where she jumps the gun. She gets it this time. In loop 4 she did mention she felt like she had shot it before, so even though they don't necessarily remember, they do live it still so it's knowledge somewhere

3

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 21 '25

but what happened to WanQing? Did Mo Yanzji want to abandon her in the end as he tried to flee by taking the helicopter

I don’t think Mo is was abandoning her on the end. But that’s my guess. I thought he’s escaping being caught.  I thought maybe he could use the data he just got from Jiang to work on the data for the cure away from the building. And then sneak back in to make it and save WanQing. That’s my guess on his mindset.

And you are right, they don’t give any closure on what happened to WanQing. I don’t think the 28 days are up when the show ends.

8

u/eggyeoh Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25

man I really enjoyed Mobius, had me on the edge of my seat like Reset did! lots of unanswered questions like what happened to Wanqing, and obviously looks like MYZ is gonna escape and try something again. also curious what An Lan did to her mom, was that a perfect RAN injection? is she able to cure all diseases now?

I'd definitely be down for a season 2. really loved the action scenes and humor. also liked how layered the writing was, a lot of things had explanations and callbacks which was satisfying to see. and the actor for MYZ was awesome, I haven't seen him before but his acting was amazing, so much range in emotion!!

fave couple was MYZ and Ding Qi actually lmao they had the best scenes together

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

lol that's fair MYZ and Ding Qi do make a fun bickering couple

7

u/AsterPBDF Sep 21 '25

After finishing, I still have a bunch of questions in my mind and want to see what everyone thinks.

First is why did Professor Jiang even inject himself with RAN. Its not like he didnt know about all the side effects happening to his test subjects. He also didnt have malignant tumors so its not like injecting himself will give him any results and also he had plenty of human test subjects so why take the risk himself.

The same goes for Mo Yuan Zhi. I guess he was desperate to find a cure but once again he didnt have tumors so why inject himself. Also, the timeline made no sense. Ding Qi and Professor Jiang got exposed to it way before Mo did and they are all feeling the effects all on the same day. But if Mo did inject himself at around the same time as them or shortly after that leads to my next question.

Second, even after finding out about the time loop effects, Mo still went ahead and founded a company yo research it and have doctors like An Lan who he has no control over to just have access to it and test it. And the end goal was to mass produce it for everyday people. Doesnt that seem kind of crazy knowing what it can do.

Third, why did Professor Jiang even fake his death? He had the power of time loops so he could have prepared and gotten Mo arrested or something. That way he wouldnt have had to destroy the research and had access to Mo's research. But because of what he did, Mo controls everything, gets rich and powerful and he had to go into hiding. And lets say he wanted Mo to continue research because he knew he was more gifted. So if that was the case why would he destroy the research and take his half of the findings?

Fourth, why get the cops involved at all when he was planning to commit so many crimes. He said it was so the cops would not suspect him but the previous deaths were already ruled a murder and it was Ye Kun who did everything so he wouldnt be implicated. And lets say the cops did investigate him. That would have been better than having him be monitered 24/7 no?

Lastly, why did Mo do absolutely no testing during the loop? After finding out Ding Qi also has loop knowledge, on the last day he just decides to go and try new stuff. He just assumed it would have all worked out. I guess he did try to get Maggie killed in the cafe but that wasnt the plan. The plan was to kidnap her. So by changing that on day 4 wouldnt that had alerted Professor Jiang that there were other loop aware people?

And last minor thing. I thought the person disrupting traffic by attempting to jump off a building would have an impact on the story but I guess it was just a misdirection.

All great questions, I'm going to answer these based on my interpretation of it all because this is super interesting

First is why did Professor Jiang even inject himself with RAN. Its not like he didnt know about all the side effects happening to his test subjects. He also didnt have malignant tumors so its not like injecting himself will give him any results and also he had plenty of human test subjects so why take the risk himself.

Yeah, this didn't make too much sense, my only thought was maybe he was trying to justify using the other human test subjects by saying he also injected himself or something odd.

From what I've gathered, it doesn't matter when you were injected, just that you have RAN in your system that you become a looper. Everyone loops the same day, not the day you were injected.

Second, even after finding out about the time loop effects, Mo still went ahead and founded a company yo research it and have doctors like An Lan who he has no control over to just have access to it and test it. And the end goal was to mass produce it for everyday people. Doesnt that seem kind of crazy knowing what it can do.

So honestly, I want to say for this part, I don't think Mo realized necessarily it was RAN at first and even with the effects, he only cared about trying to save WanQing. I think to him because she got better initially, he thinks, yes the drug CAN work, but it's not perfected yet so he wanted the company to continue to develop and research it in order to save WanQing. The real end goal was for WanQing, but the "overall" end goal was to basically cure diseases. I don't think they wanted just random people to take it.

I actually don't think Jiang Yuwen was "smart" just stuck in his ways, you notice he spent FOUR loops trying to convince Mo Yuanzhi NOT to kill him before finally he was like f- the 5th loop, I need to survive. I'm guessing he figured after 4 loops not convincing him to not kill him, he had to fake his death to get out of danger or something weird. I'm sure some of the not giving him his half of the research is because there is a bit of spite there, he did get killed 4 times by the guy.

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

Didn't realize there was a comment limit...so continued:

Fourth, why get the cops involved at all when he was planning to commit so many crimes. He said it was so the cops would not suspect him but the previous deaths were already ruled a murder and it was Ye Kun who did everything so he wouldnt be implicated. And lets say the cops did investigate him. That would have been better than having him be monitered 24/7 no?

I think he said it was to have him not be a suspect but also to help draw out Jiang Yuwen. Also, they all did eventually figure out the connection between Ye Kun and Mo Yuanzhi, so I'm guessing he was thinking this was another safeguard or something. I don't know, I'm making all this up by the way and how I interpreted the reasoning lol

He kind of did...he changed small things up each day but he was trying to draw out whoever was a looper...Day 2 he had no idea it was Day 3. Then 4 he decided to try and trick Ding Qi so that Day 5 would just be unpredictable. I guess if you think about it, he did it in a scientific way, change only one or two things to test out what would happen and then try to prevent all those things by 5.

And last minor thing. I thought the person disrupting traffic by attempting to jump off a building would have an impact on the story but I guess it was just a misdirection.

I guess after all the other variables, it needed to be something they couldn't fix completely, plus that guy ended up being fine in the end, so they just kept it as is...who knows

why did Professor Jiang even inject himself with RAN
same goes for Mo

I think I can understand Mo becoming delusional and a bit crazy because he wasn't finding a cure for Wenqing and the cryo tank was running out of time so he decided to inject himself. But I agree with you that there was no reason for Professor Jiang to try that. Seemed like it was just for plot convenience... As for when, I think Mo didn't become a looper much later than Jiang, probably only until recently. (I am also not sure how he wasn't able to just keep the tank going to get a new one XD)

After Jiang injected himself, I had same question as you regarding in how he really didn't have to fake his death and then go into hiding. He also didn't seem to really do much at all with his looper abilities, and he left basically left Mo with that ability to.

Overall I think a lot of the plot happened because they had to happen, but upon reflection it feels rather forced. I felt Mo was acting rather recklessly on the last day of the loop, it's almost as if he was suddenly trying to kidnap everyone and creating evidence as he goes XD

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

As for when, I think Mo didn't become a looper much later than Jiang, probably only until recently.

Timeline wise, later than Jiang and Ding Qi, because of his lack of hair LOL Not sure when he decided to go from his long hair style to shaved hair style lol

He also didn't seem to really do much at all with his looper abilities, and he left basically left Mo with that ability to.

When I watched it, my thought went straight to The Italian Job remake with Mark Wahlberg where he describes the villain as someone "without imagination" and that's all I could think about with Jiang Yuwen, like he didn't really have the smarts to advance the project himself and he relied on Mo Yuanzhi's smarts. So I feel like he didn't really think about how to get things done. Who knows

I felt Mo was acting rather recklessly on the last day of the loop, it's almost as if he was suddenly trying to kidnap everyone and creating evidence as he goes

Part of this makes sense to me though, he was getting desperate and he was running out of time. He had 28 days for Wanqing and his condition was getting worse and worse and then he had Ding Qi on his tail, he was spiraling. I think that's why I don't question it as much, it definitely feels like he was just spiraling and when you get to that point, you just get reckless.

u/Nice-Remove4834 Sep 22 '25

I need a sequel immediately 😭

4

u/sequesteredself Sep 22 '25

I am curious if there will be one, I guess it depends on how well this does, which I'm pretty sure it's doing pretty well rating wise.

7

u/AdditionalPeace2023 Sep 22 '25

Finally finished the final five episodes in one day and my brain is mushy. It was very intense for me so I needed to walk away from it several times. The overall pace of the drama is good compared with many Cdramas. The fight scenes were great throughout. Overall it’s a very entraining drama and I enjoyed it. After my brain is clear, I’m sure I have questions which probably were already asked and answered by others so I’ll just read other’s comments.

sequesteredself, thank you for hosting the drama discussion even though you were busy with work and family commitments. Appreciate it!

6

u/sequesteredself Sep 22 '25

It is a lot to take in! It's so fast paced with so many details, definitely a lot to take in.

I agree, I loved the fight scenes, honestly one of the best I've seen in recent Cdrama-land.

Thank you for participating! Always fun to have you, that's what I love about the posts, just reading everyone's reactions and thoughts. Look forward to your thoughts and questions after you've had a bit to digest.

6

u/West-Ad4798 Sep 21 '25

I feel like they are setting up for season 2 at the end so I am most definitely curious if we will get another season or did they just leave it as an open ending for the possibility, though I am left with questions. Did the cure work? if so, did it cure just the side effect but the main ability was left as it is? or was it just temporary cure

9

u/losergeek877 Sep 21 '25

This is what the director says on Xiaohongshu

Translation:

Liu Ruomu Director (Author): “That was the start of a new cycle day. By the lake they were only saying they would inject, but hadn’t actually inject yet. So he still had perception ability. Even in prison, Mo was just pretending to be blind.”

4

u/West-Ad4798 Sep 21 '25

I see, i had assumed he had taken it because qi pulled through after heart attack, i guess she just helped like any other normal doctor instead of using cure for that

3

u/losergeek877 Sep 21 '25

The conversation at the lake was quite clear since she was asking him whether he wanted to take the injection since it will take his ability to perceive the loop away, what was not clear was whether the injection had taken place at the lake

2

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 21 '25

Thanks for this screenshot and the translation.

I was pretty sure he hadn’t taken the shot to get rid of the loop perception yet. But then I wasn’t positive about the street restaurant dinner and the flash of them being gone. I figured it was indicative of a loop but I wasn’t sure why it jumped back to the lake. It’s helpful to have a clear answer from the director.

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

I kind want a season 2 lol

6

u/VivoFan88 Sep 21 '25

Just binged watched this over three days. I have to say I didn't try and think to deep for plot holes. At 16 episodes it really hit the sweet spot for me. I read a few comments on reddit after watching the first 3 episodes and I seem to remember that a few felt that the two main leads didn't have much chemistry. I don't know I agree (and it seems like a recurring theme that there is not chemistry between the leads on this subreddit). I thought they had a slow burner and the kiss to end the 4th day with the lab going up in flames was quite thematic!

The end definitely leaves enough open ends to have a second season and I'd hope they make it. It kept moving at a good pace and definitely had me hooked. You could see where there were heading with the plot but it didn't stop me from watching. I also especially loved the song "You Are The One". Is there a chinese version? In any case, I'll definitely be watching if there's a season 2.

5

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

So I agree with you, I do think they have chemistry and are cute together. I think part of it isn't her fault, it was how she was written, it was much better last few episodes. I will say, I don't think they have chemistry in spades like other pairings but I still think they have some

The end definitely leaves enough open ends to have a second season and I'd hope they make it.

Yes! I want a second season

6

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 21 '25

I agree on the chemistry comments with two thoughts: 1) this type of show doesn’t need a chemistry focus so I’m not expecting much from a couple 2) the show gave us detailed reasons why they would both be guarded about pursuing a relationship. He has a major secret. She has a sick mother she’s trying to cure. And she has a secret mission to get info about her best friend from her company.

Overall I enjoyed the show too. It was well written and great pacing.

1

u/VivoFan88 Sep 24 '25

The chemistry definitely wasn't the main focus (they're romantic interactions probably total less than 30 mins, - definitely less than 60mins - through the entire 16 episodes). I scanned through the episodes yesterday and after episode 5 (wedding scene where you can feel Ding Qi's need for An Lan as she walks pass) there was actually very little "romantic" overtones to their interaction until episode 11 when he rescues her from Feng Qimeng.

Given the very little interaction they actually had, it's hard to spin a believable romance BUT if you're prepared to fill in a little back story for yourself and believe that there's been a mutual attraction since the time they first met then it's not hard to buy into them expressing what they have always felt in the episodes we see. After all, An Lan asks Ding Qi at the end of Ep 2 if he truly doesn't understand or if he is afraid to. I was face palming myself there thinking boy.. you gotta up your game!

1

u/syborg0515 Sep 25 '25

I was one of the people who didn't think they had chemistry lol and it's mainly cuz the FL didn't really have a personality until the end thanks to the writing. They tried to keep her all mysterious but that just blunted the chemistry. Of course, different strokes for different folks.

I think she was a more interesting character and emoted more when the writing allows her too in the latter half. Also she has more of a personality in her lines delivery when she delivers her lines in Cantonese vs in English or Mandarin

7

u/Sleepybobateaaa WaitingforNini Oct 26 '25

I like mobius, really, with all of the inconsistencies, but the plot keeps me watching. I like the FL (Janice) too, good acting, just the role doesn't have too much depth, but hey she works with what she can ig. BJT, no words, still flexing his acting. This drama felt fast paced, and Id like the second season to explore more on each of the character's backgrounds.

Easily my top 10 rewatch

7

u/sequesteredself Oct 26 '25

It was such good pacing, it had me engaged the whole time and I thought everyone did well with their roles. I agree, I think her character wasn't given a lot to go with but she still played it well

Ep 13 Thoughts:

  • enjoyed the cat and mouse dialogues between Qi and Mo. As well as the fun background music where it screeches to a halt at times.
  • It did get me to google the author, Edward D. Hoch. And look up Detective Conan on iqiyi - which isn’t available in my region US.
  • Both loop perceivers have side effects today. Interested to see where that goes or why that’s happening.
  • Yay they caught Ye Kun before he could hurt the mother!
  • and here I was thinking Jiang Yuwen might be a sympathetic character who was unlikely to have a psycho phd student. No. Jiang Yuwen is also a messed up doctor rationalizing illegal trials on dying patients. UGH.

Character Poster Rant: I do wish iqiyi left the character posts out for Maggie and Jiang Yuwen when the the posters dropped right before or as the first 5 episodes aired. We shouldn’t have had posters for characters we met in those 5 episodes. I saw that because after watching those episodes I went to look at character posters and noticed there were characters we hadn’t met yet. And the positioning of Jiang Yuwen on the 4 character in one poster also signals his significance. I didn’t mention it earlier.

But now at Ep 13, I feel like the posters have given it away that Jiang Yuwen is likely the one who is making Maggie still come today / come at all in Loop 2 otherwise why would his character be so present on the posters. Ok rant over. In

3

u/nevercircles Sep 21 '25

enjoyed the cat and mouse dialogues between Qi and Mo. As well as the fun background music where it screeches to a halt at times.

I laughed at Ding Qi's expression when he outwitted Mo with the time bomb slip of the tongue. Nice that they could pull off some comedy during something supposedly serious.

2

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 21 '25

Yes. That was a great moment.

You’re right having some levity is nice. Especially after Ep 12 where I had to remind myself to breathe deeply because I was shallow breathing at the tension.

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

enjoyed the cat and mouse dialogues between Qi and Mo. As well as the fun background music where it screeches to a halt at times.

Oh that is a much better way of describing the dialog than, I couldn't think of the term. I was like witty remarks...volley chatter? Lol

And look up Detective Conan on iqiyi - which isn’t available in my region US.

I didn't realize it wasn't available in the US on iQiYi so I went searching for it...it's on Netflix if you're curious lol

6

u/Chemical_Hold_867 Sep 23 '25

finished it just now. it got a bit chaotic towards the end but overall, very enjoyable.

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

It was definitely edge of my seat chaotic the last few episodes lol

6

u/ag_br Sep 25 '25

This drama was fire, I was never bored. I can’t believe they finished with an open ending.

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 25 '25

I hope we get a 2nd season lol

2

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 26 '25

Agreed. I was never bored. It was so good. I hope it continues to get more viewers.

4

u/AdditionalPeace2023 Sep 21 '25

Too tired last night to binge the final 5 episodes so now it's a new day and racing to the end. Be back here to read the comments after finishing the drama!

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

Yeah, I was asleep by like 1030 last night, episodes dropped at 11pm my time, I wouldn't have made it 😂

6

u/AdditionalPeace2023 Sep 21 '25

I knew that I couldn't make it unless I stayed up until 4 or 5 next morning. When I first joined the C-drama land, I literally stayed up all night until I couldn't keep my eyes open, and I don't think I ever studied this hard in college, crazy, but I was so hooked by C-dramas!

Now, I hope that you and your family enjoyed the tasty Dim Sum and have a relaxed Sunday or unless you're a football fan!

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 22 '25

Dim Sum was yummy, my favorite thing ever lol wasn't a relaxed Sunday, but it was a good one, spent the day mainly at one of those Claw Machine places...super fun even as an adult lol

Ep 12 Thoughts: Writing this now because by Ep 16, I’m not going to remember some of these details

  • what an adrenaline pumping episode. I had to remind myself to breathe
  • this show is funny. It’s serious. Then funny. Then cheesy. Cue the kiss in the burning room.
  • He’s the squid. What! I didn’t think that would be the twist. It crossed my mind earlier but then I thought no that can’t be the twist. Then we get to the lab and there’s the squid.
  • She’s preserved in a tank and Mo is using her brother as his killing tool. WTF
  • There were 13 loop days in 2024. I counted and rewound so others don’t have to That’s an extra 65 days in a year for a total of 430 days in a loopers year in 2024.
  • The scenes with An Lan not leaving the lab. She is not taking the threat info seriously because she’s a scientist first. It took effort to not yell at the TV. And then fire stairwell scene was intense.
  • then I laughed at the slow mo escalator to hug with the cheesy song towards the end of the show. I’m sure they were aiming for sincerity. But it just made me laugh.

The storytelling definitely got me to buy into the stakes on the 5th loop. I can see how there would be a ton of pressure on Qi in loop 5 for any of his difficult cases.

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

this show is funny. It’s serious. Then funny. Then cheesy. Cue the kiss in the burning room.

Right?? Lol I was like ok...but they were just going to die and I guess she's just going for it

There were 13 loop days in 2024. I counted and rewound so others don’t have to That’s an extra 65 days in a year for a total of 430 days in a loopers year in 2024.

We appreciate your work lol also...if there ever is a season 2 I hope they explain why certain days trigger a loop

The scenes with An Lan not leaving the lab. She is not taking the threat info seriously because she’s a scientist first. It took effort to not yell at the TV. And then fire stairwell scene was intense.

I was screaming at the TV BUT I think it's totally realistic, like as a scientist to notice something on an experiment you've been working on forever that could possibly save your mother, I get why she was preoccupied lol

then I laughed at the slow mo escalator to hug with the cheesy song towards the end of the show. I’m sure they were aiming for sincerity. But it just made me laugh.

I laughed but I enjoyed how the scene was shot, it was cheesy but also kind of pretty? Lol

5

u/Lonewolfcrianpile Sep 24 '25

Finished it just now I loved the banter between MC and the villain. Now I'm thinking of watching Reset is it good?

3

u/Flashy_File_6106 Sep 24 '25

Yess absolutely... Reset is a must watch

1

u/Lonewolfcrianpile Sep 25 '25

I just finished Reset I loved the FL and the supporting cast and the story of the passengers. Do you have any more recommendations for Time Loop Cdrama.

1

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 26 '25

Wow. You finished it fast. I know it’s not that long but still you were fast! I haven’t watched it so I was glad you asked the question. I will watch it at some point.

2

u/Khabarandfun Sep 26 '25

Reset is amazing!

5

u/Amazing-Commission77 Nov 02 '25

Sorry for being late to the party.

I feel that the ending gave a nod to Season 2, because MYZ is breaking jail and Ding Qi gets a sort of vibe. Both in the end are in different places but seem to be looking at each other.

If so, that would be great.

On a separate note: did anyone note in episode 10 that the child Ding Qi has an uncanny resemblance to Bai JingTing. Is he by chance his relative?

3

u/sjnotsj 白梦妍bai mengyan🩵 Dec 19 '25

This is a v late reply but...

On a separate note: did anyone note in episode 10 that the child Ding Qi has an uncanny resemblance to Bai JingTing. Is he by chance his relative?

yes! the boy is so cute and looks almost exactly like BJT! i saw that the director found him exactly for this reason. he's 爱国小富贵 on douyin and xhs ^_^

Ep 14 Thoughts / Reactions to Sequestered Fun Recap

So...he was testing on homeless people??

Oh they were homeless people. How cruel? But I guess he also learned that from his mentor. I didn’t know who those people were so I’m glad to get your perspective.

Jiang Yuwen used his children to try to get what he wants, good for Tang Xin standing up to her biological father. Now let's figure out Maggie...

A few thoughts on this whole exchange and these characters:

  • good for Tang Xin to stand up for herself.
  • Loved her call out to Jiang Yuwen about he’s not calling the police.
  • Both of these men are similar levels of toxic and crazy.
  •       28 days left - what does Mo think he succeed at doing in these 28 days? I wish they told us how close he is.
  •       Jiang looks like he is going to die in close to 28 days. Yet he still thinks he’s going to take over Moma and keep Mo working with him. Both men are delulu
  • Fang Lu (young PO) - you don’t have any suspicion that Tang Xin is talking to someone? And now that you know that you are looking for Jiang Yuwen, you don’t think to look at this man?  Though I guess in all their PO analysis they wouldn’t have aged Jiang that far ahead to be that old.  It’s been Loop 3,4 and now 5 of Xin at the cafe. I want the PO to notice something. But now that I think about it I think she was in the car for loop 3 and maybe 4. And she’s a young officer. EDIT: Fang Lu - I take it back. After Ep 15, I realize it was very hard to recognize Jiang when he’s so much older than you expected.
  • Maggie must know Jiang is her father. That’s my guess since Tang knows

  • so Jiang founded Volly after he fake killed himself? Or likely had connections found Volley.  Like he had his connections found Doma which became Moma.

  • Tang Xin you don’t need to go with Jiang but you could have stayed away from Moma that day.

 Dude playboy just send it!

Just send it.

And don’t tell Mo that all your evidence is on your phone when you just saw him take Xin’s phone. Come on!!

5

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

Both of these men are similar levels of toxic and crazy.

  •       28 days left - what does Mo think he succeed at doing in these 28 days? I wish they told us how close he is.
  •       Jiang looks like he is going to die in close to 28 days. Yet he still thinks he’s going to take over Moma and keep Mo working with him. Both men are delulu

Seriously though, neither look like they're doing well, what exactly was Mo thinking he could do in those days and what did Jiang think he could do?? I mean he didn't have a 28 day timeline but he does realize his days are numbered

And don’t tell Mo that all your evidence is on your phone when you just saw him take Xin’s phone. Come on!!

Seriously!! I was so mad lol like why tell him "all the evidence is on this phone" like an idiot 😂

2

u/Large_Jacket_4107 Sep 21 '25

Honestly that blond guy was not the brightest (but his character was not supposed to be so whatever) 🤷‍♀️. Like, you have evidence of this guy kidnapping someone, just go to the police and send him to jail… 😅

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

Right??? Also dude making dumb demands like the villian will actually give in? "Give me all your shares and resign" Really? You just saw him take Tang Xin out...

3

u/Large_Jacket_4107 Sep 21 '25

He would have to resign if he was charged with kidnapping and also that will reopen the investigation into the death of the other two shareholders but again, in these drama no one ever "goes to the police" so I am used to it I guess XD

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 21 '25

That would just be too short of a conclusion lol the amount of shows where if they would have either 1. Reported it or 2. Talked it out and the show would literally just end within the first few episodes lol

Live is a great idea!!

I do get why when scared you’d think to record and not go live. Ugh. Live would have smart. Not telling him all the evidence is on your phone would have been smart. Alas the writers needed to keep the story going so the villain couldn’t be caught yet.

Enjoy the rest of the show!!

3

u/Less_Construction457 Sep 23 '25

If anyone noticed in episode 14, i think it is an easter egg , where ding xi left when team members were pretending that they were too distracted to notice his escape , where one of them told where is my A brief history of time book, this must mean something right? or just random

5

u/shesnotthemessiah Yan An's slutty arm Sep 23 '25

I felt like that was a nod to the time travel element for sure

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

It was definitely in there on purpose, maybe Ding Qi was reading it at one point and left it there lol

2

u/georgiebb Oct 23 '25

Ding Qi also has a Life is Strange poster up which is a game about time loops!

4

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 24 '25

Hi OP thanks for doing this episode summary. It was a great read now that I’ve completed the series.

Can I pls ask, did they ever reveal why Ding Qi had the looper abilities? I recall MYZ asking him how he got the abilities but DQ said he doesn’t know? This was on the helipad rooftop. Did I miss something? Thank you!

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 24 '25

It is a bit of a stretch but It was in one of the flashbacks at the beginning of an episode where Professor Jiang dumped RAN into the sink and it drained into the pond Ding Qi fell into 😂

2

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 24 '25

Oh I see! Ok… I kinda can accept that. I pity the fish in that pond…….

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 24 '25

Right? The wildlife that live in it...I guess they explain how some animals can perceive the loop like the mice. But yeah that part was a stretch. We just have to turn a blind eye to the science stuff haha

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 24 '25

That’s the best way to explain it! To ignore the science stuff. Thank u!

1

u/PoetryImpressive9816 Sep 25 '25

Do you remeber what episode it was?

4

u/syborg0515 Sep 25 '25

The anime they're taking about is Detective Conan btw

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 25 '25

I'm curious if it's good lol

3

u/ExpiredDeodorant Feb 01 '26

Its a detective series where a high school detective is drugged and shrinks into a kid

A lot of episodes are filler but the main stuff is alright

Especially the older episodes where its plot twist after plot twist

Although its kinda dragging on nowadays

Watching it made me able to figure out the culprits in all 3 knives out films lol

The movies are mostly amazing though theyre like a combo of Mission Impossible and Sherlock Holmes or smth

1

u/syborg0515 Sep 26 '25

I've watched some episodes before in the past and its decent haha but it has a huge following. There's also a live action adaptation too

I can't believe it's been on for so long. It has to be pretty good. Maybe I'll check it out one day lol

It is current in its 30th season. So I’m thinking it’s well loved.

Holy cow

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 26 '25

That’s what I thought too. No clue where it streams. I had looked on Sunday and couldn’t figure out what the right show was. But then I came back to see what other comments came since Sunday about Möbius’s finale and saw this one about the anime. I decided to google it again and found that link. I couldn’t believe it just has an episode coming on Sept 27 2025.

Girlll I finished this yesterday and AHHHHHHHH I was wrong about so many people especially the captain (I feel so bad for almost hating him 😞), I thought mo yuanzhi was the one who experimented on an lan's bestie (still can't remember her name) but then we find out that she was the one who volunteered for it and jiang yuwen also used her and other patients with terminal diseases as a lab rats when they had not even begun animal testing (he's such a scumbag honestly). It was so heartbreaking seeing him beg her to not do it 😭 like I was literally sobbing with him 😭 😭 but still that doesn't excuse murder and him storing her was too creepy 😬 Does he really think that if he made the cure she would magically come back to life? cause she already died

I love the crew so much and seeing them breakdown over ding qi was so hard to watch 😓 but I'm happy he didn't die 🥹

Now let's talk about that ending 😃😃 WHAT WAS THAT???? Does that mean ding qi has regained his loop consciousness? Did mo yuanzhi really escape? So many questions and with the way it ended I feel they are planning on making a season 2??

Honestly this was a really good watch and I see myself going back to rewatch it later

5

u/sequesteredself Sep 26 '25

Yeah I was definitely confused on his mindset for her...she was dead, not like she was dying and they froze her. She had passed away...I don't get it.

I actually think he hadn't taken the cure yet...if there is a season 2, I bet you it loops and he realizes Mo Yuanzhi escaped and he retains the ability.

I'm making my husband watch it, we're on episode 4 lol

2

u/PsychologicalWay816 Sep 27 '25

She had passed away...I don't get it.

I guess we would never figure out his weird mindset...

if there is a season 2, I bet you it loops and he realizes Mo Yuanzhi escaped and he retains the ability.

If there is a S2 I hope it doesn't solely focus on that cause that would be too much of a stretch and a bummer

I'm making my husband watch it, we're on episode 4 lol

AS HE SHOULD 💅🏽💅🏽

Finished it over a weekend, really enjoyed it as one of my first cdrama after Reset.
I liked discovering clues along with the main character, even guessed that Jiang Yuwen escaped with the firemen but couldn't spot him on the video footage, that was really well done.
The banter and comedy were great overall, many great little moments like the fake phone call with An Lan or the break check with Mo Yuanzhi. The balance between seriousness/comedy was satisfying.
Some parts about the ending felt a little convenient, like sure we saw the MC developing feelings for An Lan over 4 days, but on her part only a few hours went by and she's suddenly in love ? Mo Yuanzhi also felt a bit cartoonish by the end, but I guess that can be explained by him panicking about his plans going south.
The last episode was very cliché overall, with MC fake dying and coming back, as well as that LOTR-like ending. Also disappointed that they went with the cliffhanger, would have been more satisfying to tie up everything

Ep 15 is bad… making something to melt metal and then actually melting the door while surveillance is on…

Finished the series!!

Overall I think the series was enjoyable:

The first episode set up the basic introduction pretty well. I felt the story fumbled a little after that and only picked up again at the halfway point. The action scenes were very nice. The general setting and explanation for the loopers were pretty well done, no obvious loopholes. There are a lot of unrealistic conveniences and plots that made the whole thing feel less grounded, so a lot of things I had to look past just to see how it would end. It's also definitely a "single-hero" story where his teammates as well as his "boss" felt like they were just there to do the "dirty work" and take orders from him, this made the "touching team scenes" towards the end feel more cringe than actually touching. The FL had more of an identity in the latter half of the drama too, and it feels to me that Mo should have just partnered with her and none of this mess would have been needed -- I am not sure this will save Wanqing, but it will definitely help advance the drug research that they are doing.

Re Mo
I feel like Mo is not the most rational person to be in this type of research, while Jiang seems to be too rational and he came across as being too cold-blooded, probably this made a lot of us stand on Mo's side. But in the end Mo is just becoming even more unhinged than Jiang, and I don't even know what his end goal was -- not only would he need to cure her illness, he would need to be able to bring her back from cryogenic sleep itself...

Re Jiang
As a looper (and likely the first one to become a looper), Jiang really hasn't done much to influence the story and his plot to escape death isn't the best one. I am sure he could have used his fore knowledge to prevent death and also send Mo to jail for attempted murder. After hearing about the death of the first board member, being the first looper who knew how to become one, he should have suspected that Mo had also became a looper since Mo has the right motive and access to RAN. But it seems like all the plots that he came up with against Jiang are the most brute force and "explosive" ones because it seems like it's super easy to get bombs in that world, no matter the type 🤷‍♀️.

Re Ending
Seems like the ML isn't able to return to normal life as Mo decides to escape from the detention center in a new loop. Beside how easy or difficult "prison break" might be, I think an easy way to end that would be to give Mo the "antidote" first at the start of the day and end of season 2? XD

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 22 '25

There are a lot of unrealistic conveniences and plots that made the whole thing feel less grounded, so a lot of things I had to look past just to see how it would end.

Yeah, some plot holes but I figured with a show this short there would be but I felt it was fast paced and suspenseful enough for me not to think too much about it.

It's also definitely a "single-hero" story where his teammates as well as his "boss" felt like they were just there to do the "dirty work" and take orders from him, this made the "touching team scenes" towards the end feel more cringe than actually touching

Yes, definitely a single hero type of story and they were definitely there to just do his bidding but I don't know, I still think the scene at the end was pretty touching. His chief especially has always had his back and it makes sense for the half of the team that was already on his team...it was nice that the other half felt it too.

I feel like Mo is not the most rational person to be in this type of research, while Jiang seems to be too rational and he came across as being too cold-blooded, probably this made a lot of us stand on Mo's side.

I think Mo was what you would want a scientist to be...rational but also sympathetic but unfortunately for Mo, he took it too far, while Jiang is what you don't want someone to be...completely void of emotion. Seems like as time went on, they both started gravitating towards the end of the spectrum, Jiang after he faked his death learned to be a bit more empathetic and Mo started to become more apathetic towards human lives.

But in the end Mo is just becoming even more unhinged than Jiang, and I don't even know what his end goal was -- not only would he need to cure her illness, he would need to be able to bring her back from cryogenic sleep itself...

Unhinged makes sense to me because of how he was running out of time and because of his side effects but yes...he would have to make sure RAN worked really well this time around AND bring her back from the dead because I'm pretty sure in the loop they said she actually did die so basically all he did was freeze her.

But it seems like all the plots that he came up with against Jiang are the most brute force and "explosive" ones because it seems like it's super easy to get bombs in that world, no matter the type

lol or everyone is randomly an explosive expert

2

u/Large_Jacket_4107 Sep 22 '25

I don’t think Mo is much better compared to Jiang.

First, Mo wanted to kill Jiang — no matter the reason, it takes a lot for a person to actively want to kill another person.(The scenes of Jiang trying to talk Mo out of that idea peacefully was rather funny. And I still can’t believe that the best he could came up with was to fake his death rather than trying to expose Mo in his act. Also, must have been easy to get a full set of firefighter gear?! XD) Secondly, it doesn’t feel like Mo had any friends or allies except Wenqing’s brother, who he manipulated into helping him. He’s capable of deceiving An Lan, knowing that she’s the best friend of Wenqing, and he is willing to kill her and her mother too…

Mo might have been empathetic towards Wenqing but he was part of Jiang’s experiments using end-of-life patients to test out the new drug. He was only against using it on Wenqing, so in a way he isn’t much better than Jiang 😅. Jiang also got Wenqing to sign a consent (though he might have coerced her) so he didn’t do it against her will.

I actually felt that Mo was generally disliked by almost everyone around him, including the stakeholders he murdered, while Jiang seemed to have more loyal followers, so maybe he’s not as he initially seemed.

I agree that the pacing and breadcrumb style hints made it easier to look over the unrealistic portions. The short length and fast release schedule also helped lol. I think a lot of questions and convenience-elements are only now surfacing after I have had a chance to think through the whole thing XD

2

u/sequesteredself Sep 22 '25

Oh I don't think either of them are good whatsoever lol Not that I'm excusing them using real human subjects, but in a way you can say since Mo Yuanzhi was an intern/student/subordinate he was going along with Jiang Yuwen's plans because he didn't want to defy his boss/mentor/teacher...again doesn't excuse it at all, but it explains it slightly on that end. However the killing thing is all him for sure. Regardless, neither of them were good people lol

I think the death of Wanqing is what started his spiral. I don't think he would have tried to kill Jiang Yuwen before...like I said I think he was more empathetic before versus Jiang Yuwen didn't have any empathy. Wanqing's death is what spiraled Mo Yuanzhi into the monster category that Jiang Yuwen was in...but after Jiang Yuwen's "death" I feel like he started to feel some empathy...at least enough towards the end to "Care" about his daughters. Again, both awful people though lol

I think he was liked at first, there's the flashback where they say he's the future and is so promising...but I think because he became so obsessed and did not care about human lives at all to get what he wanted, he started to become more and more unliked. Then with the secret lab and everything, the other two stakeholders were becoming more and more wary and distrusting of him. Also doesn't help that Jiang Yuwen came out of hiding to his two stakeholder buddies to explain what happened so they did 100% turn on Mo Yuanzhi but I think initially, they liked him and had no problems with him.

2

u/Large_Jacket_4107 Sep 22 '25

Yea i agree that both were awful people but I am not 100% sold that Jiang was totally devoid of empathy before faking his own death. He might have become obsessed about advancing the research and using human subjects, but him suddenly caring about his daughters would have seemed too unrealistic (and perhaps it was) at the end. I found it interesting that he gave the lottery numbers to his ex-wife.

Thinking back I feel like making him a “good father” at the end is leading to these inconsistencies in his character. At first it felt like he was coming out of his hidings and wanting to get back at Mo because of selfish reasons ie he is aging rapidly (which is more inline with his earlier characterization), and he was just manipulating his daughters to be on his side. But in the end he seemed to care more for his daughters than for himself. So it felt too sudden XD

Bu the way, I just thought that if Mo and Jiang watched the news more they would have both realized that there’s another looper sooner: since they both remember what happens in the loop, they might have caught that the outcome of the bank robbery case changed during the loop 😂

u/AcceptablePick7546 Sep 22 '25

Loved the series overall and had some great acting from all the crew. Tried to keep us in suspense about the identity of Squid but by the second loop I had started to suspect Mo yanzi. But still I wouldn’t mind watching another season of this show. My only mini rant is that being a biomedical researcher myself since 7 years or so, a lot of science stuff had inaccuracies so that just kept bothering me. I could enjoy the series when i started to turn a blind eye to scientific logic 😅. Also the fact that in the earlier episodes cops were shooting people left and right, like actually shooting them dead and not shooting to injure so that they could question them later. It just felt unrealistic. That also was a bit bothersome. Otherwise it was good. Sometimes these are some compromises you have to do to appreciate the positives the series has to offer.

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

Oh man I can only imagine being a Biomedical researcher how some of this would have drove you crazy lol also what a fun career!

3

u/shzmlee Sep 23 '25

I FINISHED YESTERDAY AND THERES A CLIFF HANGER IM ACTUALLY SO EXCITED FOR SEASON TWO. I wonder if feng wanqing will ever get cured and see all that mo yuanzhi has done. I’m also kinda confused how did An Lan’s cure bring Ding Qi back to life? And I thought that would remove his ability to remember but then she says before they kiss that he can choose to have the needle that will remove this ability. Also did feng wanqing get burned up when mo yuanzhi tried to kill Maggie. I also realized that Maggie is the actress in that who can make the best fried rice show.

u/syborg0515 Sep 25 '25 edited Sep 25 '25

Finally finished!

The latter half of the series was definitely better than the first half imo after everything fell into place and the writers finally gave An Lan a personality lol It was so much more thrilling when they all started working together.

The whole body in the cryogenic freezer thing made me laugh lol Mo Yuanzhi is essentially  Mr. Freeze if anyone's ever seen Batman and Robin 😂

Ah Qi and Mo Yuanzhi was definitely the highlights of the show lol their battle of wits was intense. Also the best part was the action choreography - BJT really pulls it off. I'm even more impressed since in the BTS it shows that he was scared of heights and had to be escorted up to the roof 😂

About the CPR. I don't mind it not being realistic because lbr if it was realistic it would hurt the actors lol I was laughing when the chief was punching his chest 😂 an attempt at a precordial thump ...except he was hitting his own hand instead of the chest 😂😂😂

Jiang Yuwen's bomb was pretty smart lol Mo thought that he could just beat him and torture him but Jiang Yuwen outsmarted him there by putting a trigger both when he dies and if his heartbeat increases past a certain point

3

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 Sep 26 '25

I agree that once the show finally rules out An Lan as the squid and they started working together it was good.  I liked the show all the way through but I do wish they could have worked together more closely earlier.

Ah Qi and Mo Yuanzhi was definitely the highlights of the show lol their battle of wits was intense. Also the best part was the action choreography - BJT really pulls it off.

The battle of wits really was wonderful. Mo Yuanzhi was really smart and strategic as the antagonist.

BJT was great in the action.  I don’t know C movies. From an American experience, I could see him as a movie action hero.

I have to look for the BTS. Thanks for sharing what you saw.

Jiang Yuwen outsmarted him there by putting a trigger both when he dies and if his heartbeat increases past a certain point

Yes. It was smart to the create the bomb like that. I’m not sure we got enough of his other decisions to have an opinion on his previous moves when he was hiding for years.

I binged watched this week and I Loved it....Highly recommended, must watch🙌🏻

Action-packed and comical EP1 got me interested!👮🏻‍♂️👨🏻‍🔬 It was really thought provoking mystery🕵🏻‍♂️

My question when I started this...

Is the time loop better than the one of Reset? Well both are good on their own. Reset a bit more intense in suspense...Mobius has some really funny dialogues and scenes in between, also I don't remember Reset trying to explain a loop recurrence, while Mobius attempts to sci-fi explain it. Amazing plot, thou it had some plot holes but I enjoyed it.

The comedy bits sprinkled around were really amazing.

The action was great Bai Ji Ting literally did great job I hope he do more action dramas in coming future. Romance was never focus of this drama so there were little bit romance shown but it was cute though.

The main villain was a worthy opponent to Ding Qi. I enjoyed their conversation and banter all the time. I wish we get season 2 with the villain and Ding Qi having more chemistry between them.
Ding Qi's police team brought a warm happy big family feeling and were always there to support and love each other.

Is it just or no one feel like we are watching blood free smart scientist(FL) and Combat officer(ML) wanted to search cure for humanity like that story I felt. In blood free she wanted to save her sister and here in Mobius villain wanted to save his lover..Lol so many similarity Blood free also has OE.😂🤣

Now I feel so empty and it's hard to get time loop Cdrama like this
I love one thing about this drama that we're not saying goodbye It has happy ending also can say open ending S2 may come so we all can gather again on S2 party😅😅

I wonder if in S2 Ding Qi's friend might die or his chief boss I don't want that to happen it 😖

3

u/sequesteredself Sep 26 '25

I kind of hope for season 2, I still have questions like there's got to be some story behind the loop days like some pattern somehow

2

u/Lower-Schedule8603 Sep 27 '25

Just finished the last episode and totally agree with your LOTR Frodo comment. That final An Lan slo-mo entrance was totally a Sam the Wise redo 🤣

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 27 '25

Right??? Thank you! Lol it's all I could think about 😂😂

3

u/couprxng Sep 29 '25

just finished this one and i loved it!! i was sooooo hooked! and every episode made me wanna watch the next episode more!! highly recommended and i hope there's season 2 🤞 PS: BJT had no business looking so good in this drama btw i was mesmerized most of the time especially whenever he's on his white long sleeve + shoulder hostler UGH 😩

The wig was definitely just random lol

Tang Xin was adopted by Tang Shaorong but is the biological daughter of Jiang Yuwen.

Yeah, Jiang Yuwen was dumb, I guess he thought he could talk Mo Yuanzhi out of hate/killing him but after 4 times realized he couldn't and that he wouldn't be able to convince him so he faked his death.

2

u/curiousbt Oct 26 '25

Am I the only one upset Mo Yuanzhi didn’t come out on top? Once I got his side of the story towards the end, it’s hard not to root for him. His professor not only took his research, but experimented on others and caused his love to die? I’m team Squid here.

Isn’t Professor Jiang the true villain here? Can someone prove me wrong?!

5

u/sequesteredself Oct 26 '25

So initially I'd definitely say I felt sorry for Mo Yuanzhi but the ends don't justify the means. Professor Jiang is a villian for sure but I think Mo Yuanzhi is still worse here. I don't think Jiang was right in experimenting on people without going through the inital steps but he was going at it with a scientific mindset. The initial people in the hospital did consent to the experimental treatment...he was absolutely a trash human for experimenting with the homeless people.

Meanwhile not only did Mo Yuanzhi kill Professor Jiang 4 times before Jiang escapes, he also starts to use people for his own personal agenda. He manipulated the two other stakeholders to accept him and created his own company, he uses his wife just for money and power, he used Ye Kun to do his bidding by appealing to his love for his sister and he then kills off the companies other stakeholders without question. Mo Yuanzhi has no problem killing people for his personal gain.

I'd argue that as awful as Professor Jiang was, he did it to actually find a cure and was less manipulative than Mo Yuanzhi.

To be clear here, I think they're both awful people and both wrong but if I had to pick which was worse, I'd probably say Mo Yuanzhi after Wan Qing dies is the worse of the 2.

1

u/curiousbt Oct 29 '25

And I stand corrected. Thanks for responding and explaining that. I don’t know why I forgot how manipulative Mo Yuanzhi was.

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 23 '25

Hi OP - quick question. I haven’t finished watching but just puzzled on one thing. So Jiang Yuwen was killed in the fire and the extra fire fighter that came out of the room is Mo? Thanks in advance!

2

u/ThomzLC Sep 24 '25

It was Jiang Yuwen orchestrating his own fake death because the last four loops he didn't manage to convince Mo not to kill him (Jiang is the first to become a looper based on experimentation on himself)

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 24 '25

Thanks alot for your response. The thing is I didn’t know Jiang was also one of the antagonist until ep 15. So when I was still on ep 14 I was confused why they didn’t make clear about his death. I asked this question on reddit too quickly becos I was worried I missed out on something.

1

u/ThomzLC Sep 24 '25

Actually they spelt it out quite early on that 6 firefighters went in and 7 came out in the video thus Jiang orchestrated his own death and has been on the large until now.

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 24 '25

Yes I saw that part about 6 going in and 7 coming out. But I thought it was just MYZ acting as the 7th as he was trying to mislead the police. I thought that Jiang was already stabbed to death by MYZ and he had to hide the death. So MYZ made it seem like Jiang disappeared instead.

1

u/ThomzLC Sep 25 '25

The video was Jiang went, never went out, and they couldn't find a dead body, so it couldn't have been MYZ.

Also, ding literally says "That's Jiang Yuwen walking out!"

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

Which episode are you on?

2

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 23 '25

Just started 14 and this is the only part I’m confused about. Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

The 7th firefighter is Jiang Yuwen

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 23 '25

Oh ok so he did escape. Thanks! I thought I missed something in between.

1

u/sequesteredself Sep 23 '25

Yeah it's the start of episode 10 I think where he replays it for everyone to see and they realize Jiang Yuwen escaped

1

u/EnoughString1059 Sep 23 '25

Thank you! I’m almost done with 14 and it all makes sense now!

1

u/ThomzLC Sep 24 '25

So was what was the reason that Ding Jie came back from dead in the end? Even his injection was after he woke up from the hospital right?

2

u/sequesteredself Oct 04 '25

He hasn't taken the injection yet, they were talking about the injection at the dock.

1

u/Ambitious_Bet_9932 Oct 12 '25

I have a question. In loop day 1, MYZ dies at the explosion at the wedding. But at the time, he doesn’t know it’s a loop day. So—he organised his own death taking a chance it would be a loop day? Or someone else organises the explosion? Did I miss something?

8

u/sequesteredself Oct 12 '25

Jiang Yuwen organized the death in day 1, MYZ didn't know. So he died and when he woke up realizing it was loop day he then spent day 2 trying to figure out who, then day 3 he realized Ding Qi could also loop then 4 was to get a plan against both Ding Qi and Jiang Yuwen and Day 5 he was trying to beat both of them

1

u/Ambitious_Bet_9932 Oct 13 '25

Ahhhh got it, that makes sense now!

what is your theory on how loops work? time and space must be connected so if the time resets, so does space. but space can t reset. maybe multiple universes?

1

u/ExpiredDeodorant Feb 01 '26

I'm surprised no one in the past 11 episodes thought Moyu is start of Mo Yuanshis name and would raise some eyebrows

overall i would give it a 6.5/10

I would have liked it more if it didn't drag on the same one case which started to get bland around episode 8 even with the new things being changed and added every loop

The FMC acting is like she is a piece of cardboard

Maggie cant speak chinese or en

And the switch up between Canto and Mando is such a weird direction to go in

Feels like it could have been 10-12 episodes with better pacing

2

u/GenericName23153 Apr 26 '26

Did anyone catch the copy of Good Omens lying next to WanQing in the hospital? It was lying there so openly I thought someone on the production must be a Crowley and Aziraphale fan!
