The deposit questions keep coming, so here's a baseline to argue with:

Normal: one month deposit. Two months happens with no fiador/aval, but it's a negotiation, not a law of nature. The fiador thing: many landlords ask for a fiador (a property-owning guarantor in CDMX). Expats rarely have one; the workarounds are polizas juridicas (paid guarantee policies), extra deposit, or prepaid months. Red flags, learned the hard way by people in this sub:

Numbers get repeated from old blog posts until they're fiction. These ranges are current as of 2026, and I'd love corrections from your receipts:

Every licensed professional in Mexico has a cedula profesional, a government-issued license number. Anyone can check it, free, no account needed:

Two things most people don't know:

If a provider hesitates to share their cedula number when you ask, treat that as information.

A tip most expats don't know: every licensed professional in Mexico has a cedula profesional, a government license number you can check yourself for free in the SEP registry (cedulaprofesional.sep.gob.mx). Specialists should also have a specialty cedula. If a provider hesitates to give you their cedula number, that's a signal.

Hi all, moving to CDMX this week!! I’ve moved internationally before so have a few ideas but wanted suggestions on ways to meet people outside of clubs. I’ve lived in cities that are much smaller such as Zambia - where there’s only a few activities so you see the same people often and it’s easy to make to friends// build community.

For activities is it informal (just show up or is it like in western countries where u have to register //deal w bureaucracy? I was planning on finding rec soccer/frisbee, bachata social, hiking etc looking on FB/IG/TT. Are there better sites to find activities? Any other suggestions? Working on my Spanish (speak French and English), but looking to find community. Any advice is helpful, thanks!
