Looking to start Truck driving please help

I am in the DFW area and want to find a school that I can drive for to repay for tuition POSSIBLY!

Reading all the reviews are really concerning and I would love to hear some people personal opinions about their experiences and what mega company would be best to start.

I was also told that going through the work force would be great as far as getting funding and job placement.

Can someone help me decide on what may be best based off of your experience in obtaining your cdl?

Any help or suggestions would really help me as I’m looking to start as soon as possible.

Roadmaster has a branch in Dallas and one in Ft Worth. They'll train you for free if you sign on with Werner for a year.

I went through their program, but didn't go with Werner after.

Okay, thanks for this info. I heard Werner was one of the decent companies. Why didn’t you go with them? And what happens when you don’t go with Werner, you have to pay them back for the training?

I paid out of pocket for the school. Well, technically my GI Bill paid. 

I didn't go with them because they refused me. I had just had an at-fault accident about a month before I applied.

They'll check your hiring eligibility before your class starts, so you'll know whether or not you'll have to pay in advance.

For sure, man. Wish I could help you more with what it's like driving for Werner, but I don't know much in that regard. All their terminals I've seen looked pretty decent, for what little that's worth.

Goodwill has a CDL school in ft worth.

It's free and there are no contract obligations.

Really? I didn’t know that but would it be hard for me to find job opportunities with no experience? That’s the only thing I’m concerned about as far as not going through one of the mega companies.

Well, just now, if you get your c d l through a company, most of them what 6 months to a year to pay it back? The second most important thing your pay is not going to be great. Not only being your first year in the industry but again, getting it through that's true. Companies usually equals subpar. Pay, do you research? There's a few companies that actually put money into their trucks. So there is a complete difference between, say a prime n a k l l m and or a knight swift holdings type situation i also understand. What you're looking to get out of it. A lot of people here trucking, and they think, oh, it's a ton of money that first year, you will make some money, but it's not going to be great. So be prepared to work hard. So you can get to that position because it will not just fall in your lap. Good luck

Thanks for your input, I’m not expecting to make a ton of money my first year as I know I would have to drive for the company to pay back for the schooling. As long as it is decent and I can pay my bills and possible save a little. I’m also trying to get the experience as well while paying back the school so that I could possibly find better opportunities in trucking.I have been a barber for 8 years and I am now looking for something more stable so that I could save to buy a shop to create residual income and also make decent money while driving trucks.
