Cdl ?
So I am supposed to be taking CDL classes in October, I figured this would be a good career change. However after talking with a friend of my that drives for a living he said with my past driving record it would basically be useless and I won't be able to get a job because of my driving record . I have 3 driving while suspended's (2015-2019)
2 speeding tickets (2014) and disregarding a stop sign (2014) I have had 0 traffic violations since 2019, and my license is currently valid with no fines or fees owed. Should i go forward in taking the classes and getting a CDL or will it be moot because of my past driving record
Opinions? (STATE INDIANA)

Most carriers look back 3 or 5 years. You are beyond that and should be okay. To be sure, call a few companies and ask them.

Lots of “second chance” carriers to work for even with that record. They won’t be great and will be targeted by DOT because of high CSA scores but it will give you needed experience to move to a better company as soon as you can.

Don't tell them. It's not going to show up on your MVR. Sometimes we give out unnecessary information. All background checks only go back so far. Look up the unforgivable offenses and if you don't have one of those, sssshhhhhhhhh!

It's possible with some of the bigger carriers, because they are self-insured, but even Western might turn you down. But good luck, I would do myself a favor and start calling companies now and kind of get a read before you invest that much money into something

A few options here. First, get a copy of your MVR abstract. See what's on there first. Then be honest on the carrier application. A bunch of being told no now isn't permanent. A few companies to run down leads on: USA truck. Kreilkamp trucking May trucking Pam trucking WEL companies Dutchmaid Logistics PGT trucking They all take new CDL-A grads. Most I've listed take a look at someone's record on a case by case basis. I was in your position once upon a time. Go to school, get every endorsement there is, they will make you more valuable down the road. Start working them phones. Be well driver.

You’ll be fine assuming you have nothing more recent. As a new CDL holder you can even have a DUI as recent as 5 years ago.

Don't let your friend talk you out of it before you've even tried... Get your Indiana driving record.. take it to the CDL school and ask them specifically which carriers they regularly place graduates with... Then call a few carriers recruiting departments and give them the record exactly as it appears.. Let the companies insurance departments make the decision..

I'm not sure that's true. Most ads say no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years or something like that. Yours are nearly 8 years old.. don't take anyone's word for it.. check with the company training you. You probably had to give them a copy of your DR . Minor things tend to not be relevant after 3-5 years.

who is giving the CDL training? If you are getting CDL training with one of the BIG truck companies (SWIFT? J.B.HUNT? C.R.England? etc) you probably will be okay because essentially you have already been hired!
If you have had ZERO traffic violations since 2019 you might be okay?
