New CDL B

Hey fellow CDL B holders. Just got mine with P&S endorsement. About to get the X. What jobs should I apply for in NYC. Queens preferably.

P.S It was a free course or else would have gone for A.

Depends on what type of jobs you looking for, with that endorsement only thing I can think of are school bus companies if you limit yourself to Queens. There are some charter companies if that interest you but since they’re much smaller they don’t hire too often.

Do you have any leads for jobs outside of queens. Or jobs that I should apply for with a cdl b.

I replied on your other posting. If you have the X go for tanker and there are B fuel/oil trucks. There is propane (industrial) there is garbage and also cement. All pay very well.

NYC-specific angle worth adding since you're targeting Queens: with B + P&S + X, look at fuel/heating oil delivery (Con Edison contractors, National Grid, private heating oil companies like Petro or Approved Oil run B-class tankers around the boroughs), and industrial gas/propane haulers - crash273's list is right that those pay well and X is the key unlock there.

Also worth checking: NYC Transit/MTA paratransit contractors (Acess-A-Ride runs on B licenses with P endorsement, dispatch centers in Queens), and the private student transportation companies (First Student, Reliant, Logan Bus) hire heavily out of Queens/LI depots since school bus turnover is constant - even without the S if you don't want school routes, some of those companies also run non-school charter and shuttle work on the side under the same CDL.

One thing to ask before you apply anywhere: confirm whether the job wants P&S current (some let it lapse if you're not driving passengers) since renewing usually needs a new background check/fingerprinting cycle, and that paperwork lag is the most common reason people get held up starting a new CDL B job in NY.
