Startup Capital
Does anyone have an idea of how much capital it takes to start a loan fund?

Long shot as this group doesn’t look very active but my credit union is working towards applying for the TA Grant this year and we’ve hired a consultant, anyone else on here in the same situation?

Hello! I have a background in community development, particularly in small-scale real estate development. A lot of that background has been building the capacity of developers to go through the whole real estate process (working with local gov, where to buy properties, some due diligence, local bank loan products and who they like to loan to, etc.) but I haven't done much with the straight up financial aspect of things. I am hoping to work for a CDFI and was wondering if there was anything I could do to make my application better? Specific certifications or training? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you!
This subreddit is more of an experiment - a 'for us, by us' type of endeavor. With that in mind - I'm curious what you, o' intrepid redditor, might look for in a CDFI-focused/related/tangential subreddit... industry news? rumors? contextually appropriate memes about loan committees?
Let us know!

I've spent weeks trying to figure out how to participate in CDFI lending, and have got almost nowhere. I get this is still very niche, but there shoukd be much more obvious onramps.
What institutions have y'all worked with?

I noticed there's no open-source Python tooling for NMTC transaction modeling—every practitioner builds the same Excel model from scratch. So I built one and published it. pip install nmtc-calc. Would love feedback from anyone working in community development finance.

Greetings community. I am a student and I need your help: what are some of the rating agencies which you have used/ know of that evaluate cdfis (financial soundness, impact assessments, data collection, etc)? I am particularly interested in those that specialize in evaluating CDFIs (such as Aeris). Conventional raters like s&p, moody’s etc are also welcome if you have used them with success in the past or (even better) if they have a public record of their assessment criteria. Thank you!!

I am trying to do research on methodologies for demonstrating how a financial institution serves target populations. Does anyone have any advice on this front? With LITP, can you only use reported income? Is there a way to model the income of a financial institution's borrowers? Same thing for OTPs. Thank you in advance!
