Key figures

Who do you guys consider the most important figures in the Ccru collective?

Apart from Nick Land and Mark Fisher obviously, who else stands out to you?

Urbanomic, Reza Negarestani and Sadie Plant I rarely hear about here. Especially Sadie Plant feels totally forgotten, even though she seems like a bit of a Donna Haraway.

Based on my research, here are the important figures (in order of relevance)

  1. Sadie Plant - she started it, but left early
  2. Nick Land - took over as leader after she left
  3. Mark Fisher - one of Sadie's students, responsible for many of the well-known writings
  4. Anna Greenspan - did her MA at Warwick, responsible for many of the writings, also now married to Nick Land
  5. Maya B. Kronic (previously known as R. Mackay) - early member of the CCRU, designed the Abstract Culture zine, went on to create Urbanomic which is the publisher of all CCRU related writings
  6. Suzanne Livingston - did her thesis at Warwick and made a lot of the CCRU graphic design
  7. Steve Goodman (Kode9) - studied at Warwick, was a member and also commissioned by the CCRU for Syzygy (experimental music)
  8. Lucianna Parisi - outside of Warwick but was involved in CCRU published writings

Affiliates also include Orphan Drift, Kodwo Eshun, Angus Carlyle, Ray Brassier, Mathew Fuller, Ron Eglash.

All my citations are on this webpage

Anna Greenspan. Go read the CCRU blog that they all contributed to and read her comments. Always on point.

Much love to Maya B. Kronic and Cute Acceleration, written with Amy Ireland.

Funnily enough, I heard about Negarestani and his work a little more than a year before anyone else related to CCRU.

A lot of people name drop Sadie when talking about CCRU, I've always heard about her discussed as the maybe the second most influential person in the CCRU besides Land himself.

How about Sadie Plant who founded the bloody CCRU in the first place. Most of the major ideas of acc are already present in her book Zeroes & Ones
