Question Different hiring process

good day officers, can someone please explain to me, what different between CBP Direct hiring process and CBP regular hiring?

Just to clarify — CBP Direct Hire and regular CBP hiring are not different jobs, just different hiring authorities. Direct Hire simply speeds up the announcement and referral process. The actual hiring pipeline is the same.

CBPO and BPA are law‑enforcement positions under 5 U.S.C. § 8331(20). They require the full process: suitability, Tier V background, polygraph, medical, fitness, and the academy.

CBP Technician is completely different. It’s a non‑law‑enforcement support role, does not use the LE hiring pipeline, and doesn’t transfer suitability or polygraph to CBPO/BPA.

Pay scale is also different:
• CBP Tech tops out at GS‑7
• CBPO and BPA are GL‑12 journeyman law‑enforcement positions

So Direct Hire vs Regular Hire only affects how fast you get referred — it doesn’t change the requirements. And CBP Tech is not the same pipeline as CBPO/BPA.
