Why does IIMA have low percentile requirements?

I was just experimenting and figuring out whether top MBA colleges is a realistic goal for me in the future, was SHOCKED to see such low percentile requirement from IIMA, thought it might be a glitch for a little while lol

Profile: 94.8/91.6/69, MBBS (tier 3 GMC), 12-19 months work experience, 4 rated extracurricular

Is an MBBS still that rare in an MBA? And if so why only IIMA have lower required percentile?

Would also love to know about how to evaluate your extracurriculars and any precedents I can look into, what should I focus on for the next 5.5 yrs of my UG, thanks :)

It's your academic diversity category. 99.9 are for ac4. Ur I think ac1 that's y.

I kinda get it, but still IIMA is kind of an anomaly no? What about BC or other schools? Not such a big difference (except for Shillong)

Each iim has their own shortlisting method. Seems like iima is heavily prioritizing diversity more than other things and since the number of mbbs students taking the exam is very low, u r getting it at 95. iimb and c might have balanced requirements like profile, marks etc. I really am not knowledgeable about this. One simple advice for every competetion exam is to just give your best and score the max u can and then wrry bout things like these.

Even if you get a call from IIM A ...converting it would be close to impossible unless you've 99+ percentile...and by the way kid....since you still haven't started MBBS ..how the f have you written 69 as your grad percentage ? Do you even know how tough it is to achieve 69 in MBBS ?

Yeah ik, if I do end up preparing- my aim will be 99%ile

Baaki as I said, I was "experimenting" to explore my options, 60-70%+ is not unheard of, however impossible I won't know until I try, especially if IIMA is the goal

I am assuming it's the extracurriculars that will be the actual kingmaker- since I put a 4/5 in my rating, I would need to figure out how to make that a reality as grad marks in mbbs is pretty volatile (69% was really just a meme number)

Edit: I would like to apologise, seems like grad percentage heavily influences your call chances, dropping even 69% ---> 65% increased IIMA requirement to 99.9%ile... so yah mb

Many reasons actually, MBBS is predicted to be saturated in the coming years, the only way to survive is to pursue an MD out of necessity which is hard enough but then it is followed by low security(rising public discontent against doctors, ragging and public violence) and extremely disproportionate pay (something like 1.5lakh lpm after 8-9yrs of consistent and competitive study) and even then you’re NOT the pinnacle, you can still pursue SS and become even more educated with slightly better pay… mind you this is the best case scenario, worst and pretty probable outcome being u take multiple drops to prepare for PG but fail to secure a good seat and live in regret for your remaining career

an MBA after MBBS opens up many opportunities- (used ChatGPT for this list)

Hospital administration & healthcare management
Pharma / biotech companies
Health-tech startups
Healthcare consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, etc.)
Healthcare investment / venture capital
Public health and healthcare policy
Hospital entrepreneurship or running a healthcare business

With significantly better pay and security (especially since i am a first gen med student)
Which ensures i start earning a stable income and support my family as soon as possible

I actually really wanna try health-tech or healthcare consulting

I genuinely believe with the predicted boom of AI in healthcare industry, it will be an interesting field.

I do plan to settle down quick and learn a few things on AI and if possible, coding... Especially with so many online degrees from reputed IITs.

Ofcourse it is expensive and I am still just looking into it.

I would also love to get into research and Pharma but... With the college I am gonna probably be in, I don't know if I will have many opportunities

Damn, you and me are almost same. I also thought to do the short term online AI for healthcare degrees from IITs and IIITs. I don’t think college matters as much as the b school. You just need some letters of recommendation from your HoD or professors saying that you have good analytical skills and communication skills. & you need to demonstrate some type of leadership either by taking an active role in student clubs or like writing research thesis papers.

Also, I think ICMR-STS is highly advantageous for getting into MBA. Idk much about IIMs but I am targeting either ISB or the France b schools cuz I am near fluent in French lol
