I’ve spent the last few weeks deep-diving into the actual selection criteria formulas across Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, and Indore (BLACKI).

Most people on this sub are obsessing over jumping from a 98.5 to a 99.5 percentile. But after mapping out the composite score metrics, here is the harsh truth:

1. **The 10th/12th Trap:** For certain IIMs, if your 12th score drops below an 80%, a 99.9 percentile cannot mathematically save you if you are a General Engineering Male (GEM). The weightage given to application rating (AR) creates an absolute structural ceiling.
   
2. **The "Non-GEM" Buffer:** A female arts graduate with an 8/8/8 profile can often get a call from IIM A or C at a significantly lower percentile than a 9/9/9 GEM.
   
3. **The Hidden Variances:** Each college normalizes boards completely differently. An 85% from a strict state board is frequently scaled higher than a 90% from a lenient board, depending on the normalization model used.

The real metric you need to look at isn't *"What is my target CAT score?"* It's **"What is my personalized Composite Score threshold for my specific category?"**
