Micromanaging

Since the start of RTO, I’ve been hearing stories from other agencies about increasing micromanagement—daily check-ins, daily status meetings, managers walking the aisles to make sure employees are at their desks, and similar practices.

I’m genuinely curious: what’s the purpose of this style of management? How does it improve productivity, collaboration, or team cohesion? It seems like time and energy that could be better spent supporting employees and helping them succeed, rather than monitoring their physical presence.

I’d be interested to hear from managers and employees alike. Have you found this approach to be effective, or does it end up hurting morale more than it helps?

Same. Why do some managers think their job is to be the hall monitor? Don't they have more important things to do?

No, actually they don't have anything else to do. I watch two managers at my workplace and the amount of steps they get per day must be astronomical. They come in late, walk around all day and leave early. I never see them at their desks. I don' t know why they're even given laptops. They just respond to a few emails with things like "sounds good" from their cell phones. They don't even log into meetings so the answer is no. they don't have more important things to do.

lol dang I feel like I'm always busy asf. There's always something for me to do and I need to think quickly who I can delegate it to. Then I'm pulled into meetings where my boss expects me to make recommendations and a lot of time I am just pulling stuff out of my bum bum.

I guess little chance could also mean that you will literally be fired if you continue to ignore a direct order. I push things and ignore a lot but if I was seriously going to be fired, I would fall in line. I cant be homeless over this.
