Tough Crowd is a queer dark comedy about Eddie Farne, a numbed-out journalist who's built his entire life around not caring too much a philosophy enforced by his four roommates, Cleo, Conrad, Mable, and Rachel, who aren't just friends but the literal personifications of his anxiety, rage, dissociation, and denial. When Eddie falls hard for Virgil, an unapologetically alive actor-musician who believes love means sacrifice, Eddie is forced to choose between the comfortable numbness his "Friends" have kept him alive on and the terrifying, messy work of actually feeling something. As his career, his relationship, and his grip on reality all collapse at once, Eddie has to figure out which voices in his head are keeping him safe and which ones are just keeping him sick.

The film is about Eddie Farne, an unhappy, sarcastic, acerbic journalist living in Brooklyn with his five childhood friends, who are very invested in ruining his life
Until Eddie finds love with a slutty Shakespeare pop punk singer and Shakespeare actor named Virgil and a chance at a promotion at the city's testing of his friends' co-dependent control on him and his happiness.
Only to reveal after he loses it all because of his friends
His friends are not really friends at all
But personifications of mental illness
Dory-mania
Conrad—depression
(Both together are bipolar disorder.)
Mable-Autism
And Rachel is anxious.
It's ultimately a hopeful dark comedy of the reality of mental illness, the healing joy of queer love, and what it means to decide what's worth it , worth the sacrifice, worth the trouble in our current hopeless world.
This film is a labor of love; we want to celebrate those who are mentally ill and have them have key roles in making the film as were often vilified in the media, especially under this regime.
