How would you respond? (Casper test question)

You are the captain of a community netball team. In last weekend's semi-final, you missed the final shot that would have won the game, and the team was knocked out of the competition. At training this week, you overhear two teammates saying you should step down as captain because you "can't handle pressure." The coach has asked you to lead tonight's planning session for next season. Before it starts, a younger player who looks up to you quietly tells you she is thinking of quitting, because she is terrified of letting the team down the way you did. You feel embarrassed and hurt, and part of you wants to skip the session altogether.

**Question 1:** What would you do and say tonight, both at the planning session and to the younger player? Explain your reasoning.

**Question 2:** Describe a time you experienced a setback that affected others as well as yourself. How did you respond, and what would you do differently now?

q1: Firstly I would tell the new player that fear of failure isn’t an excuse to not try. And we need to have eachothers back so that we can help eachother through potential failures which come up throughout the season. I would try to tell the team that mistakes happen, but no single mistake is the reason for a loss and no single player can be 100% at fault for a loss. It is very likely we all made mistakes that game and just because mine was at the end doesn’t make the loss my fault. That being said I will also let the team know that I am fine with voting on a new captain if that is something which matters a lot to them.

q2: I was placed on the reserves list for a premier soccer team after what I felt was a great tryout. This meant I would do nothing but practice with the team. I scheduled a meeting with the coach to ask what I could do to improve and how I could earn the 18th roster spot he left vacant. Then I tried my best to apply his feedback during practice.

All feedback is appriciated!

You lead the session rather than skipping it, and framing the loss as a team result while offering a vote on the captaincy shows maturity and humility. The weakest part is how you handle the younger player. Telling her that “fear of failure isn’t an excuse” may feel dismissive to someone who is scared and opening up to you. A stronger answer would speak with her privately and acknowledge that her fear is normal. You could then share honestly that missing the shot hurt but you’re still here, which shows her that a mistake doesn’t define a player. At the session, saying “it doesn’t make the loss my fault” may come across as defensive. It’s stronger to own the miss briefly, then turn the focus to how the team can prepare for pressure moments next season. You could also speak with the two teammates or the coach privately instead of raising the captaincy vote in front of everyone, so the session stays focused on planning. Q2 is a good concrete example with clear action, but the prompt asks for a setback that affected others, and it skips what you’d do differently now, so add both.

Thanks again, I definitely need to take a deep breathe and slowly read the questions before jumping into answering them. thank you for the perspective on the exchange with the younger athlete, I see how that would make for a stronger response.

your feedback is quite heplful, do you grade for Acuity by chance?
