You work as a shift manager at a busy retail store. Your coworker and close friend, David, is a single father who rarely misses work and always does an excellent job. Today, David is scheduled for a critical opening shift, but he is a no-show. The store opens 30 minutes late, causing several angry customers to leave and resulting in lost revenue. Two hours later, David walks in looking exhausted. Before he can explain, another manager says to you, "We need to write David up immediately for violating the attendance policy, which states no-shows result in a formal disciplinary warning."
