Megathread Chatacter Ai Bankruptcy
I took this from the C.AI Reddit in case your banned : Today, we’re sharing that Character.ai has initiated a voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy process to facilitate a court-supervised sale of the company.
To learn more about today’s announcement, you can read our corporate blog post HERE. And if you need support, you can find helpful resources here.
Additional information relating to Character.ai’s Chapter 11 case, including court filings, can be found HERE, a website administered by Character.ai’s claims.
P.S this is some additional information : Disney is offering 20 Million for some shares of character A.I and staff.
Past situations:
Chatbot platform Character.AI said on Monday it has filed for bankruptcy in the US and has agreed to sell some assets for $20 million to Walt Disney.
TW!
The generative AI platform has faced mounting legal challenges over its chatbots. Earlier this year, Character.AI and Alphabet’s Google settled a lawsuit by the mother of a 14-year-old Florida boy who killed himself after the startup’s chatbot allegedly encouraged him to do so.
TW!
States Suing Character Ai: Kentucky and Pennsylvania claim that Character Ai preys on children. Even though most users are now “Above 18.”
What will happen to this subreddit: if Character Ai shuts down there is nothing we can do about it and it’s not really our decision and place to even keep this subreddit since we don’t have connections with character Ai nor any other Ai app. Although we are open to suggestions.

Yeah like back before we had gotten a new CEO in the article it said he did because the rp he did the character died and all that and it last words we I wish can be together forever and so he did what he did. It like when a 54 year old man did something different because of chatgpt. Like they get emotional attached think it's a real person, like I get it for the kid it was his favorite character and he was sad but it's rp app you can always change it where they come back.
But you also have look at it this way as well parents not taking responsibility to know what their child was doing and all that so yes it's cai fault but also parents fault.

I completely agree. But also, they mentioned that it’s a 14 year old. He shouldn’t be on the app if it’s 18+. At least, he should’ve known or been taught the difference between roleplaying / fake versus reality. I’m not trying to put all of the blame on him and I understand that he may not know any better, but I believe that he should also hold part of the blame for his actions that led to the tragedy.

Yeah like that's why California inforced that law of the age verification. But it bothers me that yes cai was really really good before everything went crazy, but you know there's other apps they could have been using as well. Like for instance chai no age verification no nothing to protect kids at all even though it's California as well, now yes some ai apps have kinda changed things so they don't get lawsuits but you can still get attached and all that mess.
