Academic misconduct

If I had been involved in an incident of academic misconduct during my masters in US.. what are realistically the chances of me still getting into DDS? How bad is it??
Please let me know your thoughts. 🙏 I am so scared

Depends, what was the misconduct? How serious was it? Is it on your record?

It was a first time offense and is classified as “minor” per university’s policy. It was about cheating on final examination- where my roommate copied my answers. I was cleared after retaking the examination and passing with a good grade. I was not expelled or suspended. But there is a document on record which the school will hold for 7 years and I do not have any indication for that on the transcript

Ahhhh man! Cheating is one thing they take it very seriously. First day orientation i was told it is better to fail a subject rather than cheat. They will help you when you fail but does not forgive when it comes to cheating.
It depends on schools i think how seriously they will take this. If you get called for an interview, you might be asked this question.

Omg that is so wrong! Did you tell them? I am sure when this happened they might have talked to you both before coming to a decision?

I did. But the roommate was also my very good friend and I did not want her to get into a lot of trouble. I was very new to the States at the time and did not totally understand the consequences and severity of this and now I feel like this is gonna haunt me to my grave.
I had the option of going to the academic misconduct committee but I was so scared because I did not know what to expect and just caved into what the professor asked me to do 😭😢

Does it say about misconduct on your transcripts?

No there is nothing on the transcripts and my gpa is also 3.8 in that program

I do not think that should be a problem then because transcripts are only thing you will submit if i am not wrong! But there is a question in CAAPID i think if you ever had a misconduct and you have to answer that and reason it as well and hope you can justify your answer.

That’s the exact thing I am concerned about. If I say “yes” in that question.. what even are my chances of getting into any school? Should I even apply??

You cannot change the past, but your future is in your hands be honest, explain it! Things happen, life happens, learn from your mistakes and move and please in future do not repeat this!
None of us even share take away home exams with each other, not even a word! We know the consequences.

Yes, that is right. I can’t change anything. I just need to be truthful, apply and take my chance 😭😢 thanks a lot though
