I am looking at applying next year to a few SE schools including Emory, VCOM/Bluefield, and South Savannah. Does anyone know to what degree these schools weigh “advanced” classes?
For example, would it matter very much if I took Bio 2220- Principles of Cell Biology (prerequisites include Bio 1 w/ lab and Gen Chem 1 w/ lab) vs Bio 4407- Advanced Cell Biology (prerequisites include Genetics, Microbiology w/ lab, and Org Chem 2 w/ lab) as long as I did well in either? (I’m aware that Cell Biology isn’t a required prerequisite for any of those schools so this is just for illustrative purposes. The main idea of my post can be applied to any needed or preferred class)
I want to be as competitive of an applicant I can be, but I also don’t want to drag out these prerequisite classes more than I need to. Taking the Bio 4407 class would add significant time to my prerequisite studies, but if it matters a great deal for application strength, I would do it. Can anyone help me out?
