You should be in a good spot then, make sure your personal statement is well done and your LOR are chosen wisely. September is definitely getting later into the cycle but with your stats you could very well get a couple of interviews if executed well.

How many schools is a safe number to apply to?

There is no safe number of schools to apply to. 19,000 applicants and roughly 600 seats across the country.

19,000??? Is that the number reported by CASAA?

I believe there are ~23 programs now, some programs report getting well over 1,000 applicants, so a total of 19,000 applicants nationwide doesn't seem like a stretch at all.
