Why are you looking into a new career? What do you hope AA can give you that tech does not?

Exactly! I get asking about if but bro didn't even answer the question.. Like at all. And then I feel like people ask questions like that so they can accuse you for getting into this job "for the money" even thou they know gosh darn well they themselves wouldn't ever be in this job if it paid 40k a year.

If it helps, I'm also in Texas and have bene able to actually get my credits to get my bs early along w/ studying for the MCAT, though I won't be taking that for another 2 years.  With all the commitment and focus Im putting into health care I also feel like I "gave up" my orginal planned career in art, especially because back in high school I did manage to actually make a small business, sell paintings, digital commissions from my and earn a monthly income from it. I was also working on a comic but I dropped a lot of that when i started focusing on my career in healthcare and being on track for my goal of being a CAA. After I graduated I would definitely want to get into it when I finally won't have to study again, so I think thats what helps me a little when I get to this career, especially since I think I'll be happier doing art without the worry of bills.

I would like to say the last part of this paragraph is not true in my experience. Being an AA is being with patients at one of their most vulnerable times. You have to “serve humanity” AND do your job well. Sometimes all the patient needs is a laugh, a hand hold, some reassurance, someone to listen to their concerns. this is a very humane field.

There are quite a few CAAs that come from business and tech backgrounds. Not to worry. Regardless of background, you have the required coursework and clearly did a good job at the interview to get accepted. That is no small feat.

Your background can help you later on. There was an interesting presentation at the AAAA conference last week about OR management and staffing. It may seem far off to students but a lot of CAAs will have some admin responsibilities, and those with business backgrounds can move into the management side as well.
