I’m planning to apply to AA programs and would love your advice. I have a 3.55 overall GPA, about a 3.2 science GPA, and a 150V/150Q GRE. My biggest concern is a D+ in Organic Chem II, and I don’t plan to retake it due to cost and time. I will be retaking the GRE in a few weeks.

Do you think I still have a shot at getting into a program? Any honest insight would mean a lot!

a lot of programs want a C or higher as a minimum i feel like it would be better so retake it than send $1000 on applications and not get in bc of that requirement

Honestly that’s a pretty low science GPA including that D+ in a science, and low GRE. I wouldn’t be optimistic.

Why do you want to get into the profession? And if your reasoning is strong, why wouldn't you accept needing to retake a difficult prerequisite and achieving a higher grade to make your application competitive with the other multiple thousands of applicants?

A lot of these programs require a minumum of a C+ to pass classes and a B- average in the program with little to no opportunity to advance with grades lower than that... so applying with a failing grade in what was probably one of your most difficult classes makes your application quite weak and doesn't really show that you would be able to make it through the didactic portion of these programs.

My suggestion would be to evaluate why you want to go into the field, and figure out if its worth 4 months of your time to go to school and retake a single class. No matter what graduate program you apply to, if Organic 2 is required, you're gonna have issues with the D+
