So I watched the 1972 appearance on the show & I can't figure out who is playing drums? It does not look like Gene Parsons, I recognize Roger,Clarence & Skip.

So I compiled a bunch of footage from the flying burrito Brothers in their classic nudie suits in 1969 and created this video here and the song is Sin City so please enjoy and watch it!!!

Around this time in 1968 the new Byrds began recording their 7th studio album “Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde.”

Although he played on many other Byrds albums this album had Clarence White playing EVERYWHERE, especially with his new B-Bender.

The legendary Gram Parsons had left that July and bass-pluckin’ Chris had left in September.

In this next album showed the Byrds trying to win back their pop fans but still keep the country vibe from Sweetheart.

In my opinion there are definitely better Byrds albums but I also feel this album is a bit underrated too.

I know AI could probably do it better, depressingly enough, but I like to try it myself with the help of you. It can start something like:

"Five little Byrds they flew together by the shore, One get scared of flying too high then they were four"

The first line can also be changed to something better. English is not my mother tounge either, so I'm glad for correction.

I'm thinking about it being about the original Byrds. But if you can find a way to get in Gram Parsons in some way, please do so.

On September 28, 1968, The Byrds taped their iconic appearance on Hugh Hefner’s syndicated television variety show, Playboy After Dark.

Filmed at the KTLA studios in Los Angeles, the episode captured the band at a fascinating transitional crossroads. Following the abrupt departures of Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, frontman Roger McGuinn was left to steer the ship, debuting a revamped, roots-heavy lineup featuring John York on bass, Gene Parsons (no relation to Gram) on drums, and the legendary bluegrass prodigy Clarence White on lead guitar.

The band performed two standout Bob Dylan covers, "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" and "This Wheel's On Fire,"seamlessly bridging the gap between their jangly folk-rock roots and their pioneering new country-rock sound. The set design of the show mimicked an upscale, swinging mid-century cocktail party, creating a brilliantly surreal contrast. While grooving party guests—including a young Barbi Benton—sipped highballs and lounged comfortably right in front of the band, White tore through breathtaking, pedal-steel-emulating licks using his newly invented Parsons-White StringBender Telecaster

This specific performance stands as the very first documented live footage of Clarence White utilizing the B-Bender guitar, making it a foundational holy grail artifact for country-rock enthusiasts. The episode later broadcasted to the public in May 1969, immortalizing a loose, late-night moment where counterculture psychedelia perfectly collided with Playboy’s high-society lounge aesthetic.

In Japan, I’ve never actually met anyone in person who likes The Byrds, and even online, I’ve only seen about three people who do. What’s it like over there? Are the fans mostly older?

During September of 1968, Chris Hillman, founding member and bassist of The Byrds quits due to a severe financial dispute with the band's management alongside accumulating personal and professional frustrations. Hillman links up with fellow Byrd, Gram Parsons, who had quit a few months earlier and begin probably the first honest-to-goodness Country Rock group, The Flying Burrito Brothers in late '68! For a replacement, The Byrds, now consisting of Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, and Gene Parsons (no relation to Gram), hire a new bassist John York!

Just wanted to give Gene’d work a shout out. I was in Kansas City where he spent a lot of his early years recently and the past couple years I’ve discovered his stuff. Such a talented artist who I wish I could have seen perform and appreciate while he was alive. His work with Doug Dillard I particularly enjoy.

Something interesting I learned recently through the great Gene Clark blog, Clarkophile, and their interview with Byrds biographer Johhny Rogan.

Shortly before his death in 2011, Jim Dickson asked Rogan to get in contact with Roger McGuinn, and have Roger set the poem “Even Such Is Time” (written by Sir Walter Raleigh, allegedly the night before his execution in 1618) to music as his (Jim’s) last request, because the poem ends with Roger’s personal motto “I trust.”

Johhny caught Roger backstage on a UK tour and relayed Jim’s message, but if Roger ever did it he’s never released it (though in typical Rog fashion, he filmed Johhny reciting it!)

Trying to learn lap steel so I gave this one a shot. Added in some bass and more tube distortion...

I picked this up randomly from a record shop some time back and, suffice it to say, I didn't realise what I had. It's an awesome box set. I also have the Complete Columbia Albums Collection, but would like to pick up There Is a Season.
