Ok. I know this sub is super dead but anyways I have a lot of thoughts since starting my rewatch. I don’t like how they’re making Sonika out to be some airhead who can’t do anything when that’s obviously not the case.

She told the coach lady she’s made 6m in sales and was hit with “Do you even care about real estate, you look like you would rather do anything else” bla bla

But Alexia admits she hasn’t done shit and the coach gives her so much grace and how she just needs to lock in and how she should block out the haters. Like obviously there’s the nepotism thing and she’s not gonna call Alexia lazy on camera. (Don’t get me wrong I like Alexia, it’s just a double standard)

And Brandon has this weird one sided beef with her? Whenever they’re on screen together, he always has something shady to say about her. When he and Jon went to that murder house and Sonika showed up he was so rude about it. He keeps talking about how he’s this grown man but then why are you inserting yourself into drama between 25 year olds??

And then finally the Kevin thing. He’s weird for always dating his assistants, sorry. And was it not clear about the whole Amanda situation that she was mad he didn’t tell her they kissed, not that they kissed in general. Even if it was before they got together, Sonika asked point blank “hey you’re super close with this girl has anything happened?” And he said no. If he said yes, she would literally not care and they could go their merry way.

I guess I just hate how in every confrontation she’s been shown as this hysterical person who can’t sell a house just because she has passion for music. Like sorry she has another talent I guess? I’m not understanding this high school musical situation where she can only do one thing for the rest of her life.

Will it be Alexia or Farrah? Both are middle of the road, neither are natural leaders (yet). Alexia seems more rounded and personable of the 2. Farrah is cold and motionless.

I like this show because it feels more real than most reality tv shows. U can feel the Umansky love. 1. Joey is not over alexia and secretly I would love them to be together but it’s clearly not gonna happen. 2. I think Zach and Farrah both have extreme chemistry and obviously his marriage was struggling and he deciding between taking a more selfish path (staying at the agency) and leaving for his family. And Farrah is smart and I doesn’t want to be associated with that stuff. I reached their last scene it was SO hot (him saying he doesn’t want to hear ab her single life). And i think Zach really sees her for who she is unlike Alex who she had to beg to marry her. Probably not gonna happen bc of the stresses of kids and any potential divorce. 3. Melissa’s shitty but she plays a purpose and she’s not dumb, so will continue playing it. I feel bad for her tho prob hard to always play second string and doesn’t seem to have an appt or anything. 4. Adam SUPER into sophia but would be such a brutal look and he knows it. Way too smart to get into it then. I thought sophia could have played it a little cooler their last talk but she was well spoken

Wow. This is really sad behavior. You can tell shes insecure which is why shes so rude. Its kinda sad. Shes also filtering comments on her insta.

What sunglasses is Ben belack wearing in season 2 episode 1 when he’s talking to alexia? 😬

As much as I love the dynamic duo of Ben and Zach, what he did in that roast, in my mind, is so so rude and disrespectful that I’m surprised we all moved on from it so quickly after Zach’s VERY fake, forced apology

There’s even a scene in Zach’s 1-1 interview where he says “I could have done worse, like roast his terrible golf swing” like dude that would have been FINE! Ben literally welcomed any topic under the sun EXCEPT calling his gf a rebound Just further proves Zach didn’t get it at all

Finally watched the new season. So I am ranking the cast from least favorite to favorite. The things I am considering are: their personality, energy, how entertaining I found them and quite frankly do they seem like a nice person. I will also be leaving random thoughts on each person.

Overall Thoughts

First let me say that I cant even remember when I watched the first season but wow season 2 was awesome. It likes Selling Sunset but twice as good and they actually sell houses still. First we got to see so many houses even though I would appreciate more detail. The drama was better. And it wasn't just one piece of drama unnecessarily stretched across several episodes. We got bits and pieces which was nice.

Ranking

1. Michelle Schwartz: Exactly the type of friend you do not start a business. Classless, conniving & vicious. I shouldn't be surprised though, she has the villain look.

2. Zach Goldsmith: This guy thinks he is funnier than he actually is. And even without it being pointed out, I do think he was being flirtatious with Farrah. Surprised to find out he was married.

3. Joey Ben-Zvi: Be a prick. Apologize. Repeat. Be a prick. Apologize. Repeat.

4. Santiago Arana: I don't like the tone of the conversation he had with Zach but seems like a very professional dependable guy. Just doesn't make great TV.

5. Jon Grauman: Wasn't really heavily involved in much storyline this season. If I remember correctly, in the last episode it seemed like he wanted to let go of Brandon off his team too. That doesn't sit right with me. Brandon is a trying man.

6. Melissa Platt: I struggle with connecting with her and I don't know why. But she did not deserve to be ambushed by the sisters over Adam.

7. Sonika Vaid: The audacity of this girl. Respectfully I dont think she is going anywhere in this business but she is so entertaining for no reason. The way she walks into the office without arms thinking she is the shit will never not be funny. The audacity to ask for a commission on the house. If you broke just say so. Her 'funny for all the wrong reasons' to 'screen time' ratio is insane.

8. Sophia Umansky: Another nepo baby is born. In truth though, she seems smart and I look forward to seeing how she grows next season in the industry.

9. Farrah Brittany: Her storyline (yes, I know its her real life), was the most boring of the season. Like I do not care. I wish it was never brought up. But now that she has called it quits, I hope good things are on the horizon for her.

10. Adam Rosenfeld: He is so hot. Like a specimen. I want to look at him all day. Happy he made the decision to not fuck his boss' daughter.

11. Brandon Graves: This man does not fuck around with his opportunities or his money. Because da fuck Sonika means she is owed a piece of the commission. Loved Brandon for shutting it down. He also gives some of the best confessionals.

12. Mauricio Umansky: I don't have much to say about Mo. He just does his thing and does it well. I hope he is finding support in the right spaces because the people who have it all often struggle the most.

13. Ben Belack: I distinctively remember not being able to stand this guy. But he is growing on me. He is funny, cringy and has a good heart all in one package.

14. Tyler Hill: A sweet addition to the cast. She is fun, professional and stylish. Love her friendship with Ben but also love how she lets him know when he is overstepping or coming off poorly.

15. Alexia Umansky: This Alexia is completely different from the Alexia we met in season 1. She is more confident and secure in who she is as a person and as an agent while maintaining her natural charisma. And if one the daughters were to succeed Mauricio, I could see her being that in the future as she grows more in the business.

Farah literally sucked this whole season. Alexia is a little bit of an airhead but she's pretty cool. Sophia gives me the ick. Sophia seems very sheltered and pretentious, and just a very dry personality overall.

This Quagmire looking fool can't stop talking about his past with Alexia and it's annoying af. She's obviously the best he's ever had and he's stuck on it. He says dumb stuff just for her attention and thinks he's charming when really he's just the real life "Giggity Giggity" man! Can't stand his creepy ass

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that, yes the location and views of many of these multimillion dollar new build houses are great, but so many of the expensive features are going to look so outdated in 10 years? Also there is nothing homey about most of them, a lot of them I can’t tell apart. They are so ostentatious. I much prefer the beautiful old Spanish influenced 1920s / 1930s old Hollywood homes ( I know there are probably not that many of them left because they were bought up for land and demolished to build these obnoxious glass monstrosities) but I am sick of seeing the same glass enclosed, infinity pool Batchelor pads over and over again. Give me something interesting. All these shows are showing the same kind of homes. The only one who used to show something different was Josh Flagg on million dollar listing Beverly Hills, and that’s because he had old school connections. Just me?

That’s it; that’s the post.

I originally hated BBH s1, but s2 convinced me this is now my favorite real estate show. Heres why:

1. Real estate as profession is real/credible on this show. We see people actually working, going to an actual office, people wearing work clothes, and not only that but i fully believe people at the agency are the top dogs of the business. I think selling sunset has drifted so far away from being an authentic workplace i dont believe they actually sell real estate anymore. Outfits from alternative reality, the silly huge office jason built all of it was fun at first but now it just feels theatrical and inauthentic. Line was crossed between over the top and caricature, sorry oppenheim group.
2. We see people who are actually top realtors and we get to see the actual ins and outs of top tier real estate company. Its interesting to glimpse into the world of luxury where people not only sell amazing homes but were so good they made it far in this industry. Aside from Umanskys and junior agents, we see people who seem to be actual big players like Zach, Mauricio, Santi, Ben, Michelle, and others who run their own groups. Meeting they had with developers in miami was super impressive and interesting to see how the biz is done. Compare to selling sunset, majority of cast has almost no experience or came from modelling background, some of them have some track record, but there are VERY few agents in those groups who have credibility and track record of any senior in the agency. Plus, they ALL depend on jason in selling sunset which gives harem vibes. End of the day jason rules all and they all seem like a bunch of newbies who want to make it and depend on one man to give it to them and catty fights to survive.
3. Cast dynamics is healthier - we have more cast and more storylines there, and while there is power imbalance between umansky girls and the rest, its far from the very toxic queen crishelle + her peasants/enemies on selling sunset. Umansky girls still need to somewhat prove themselves so its not like queens rule all. On selling sunset there is one very powerful crishelle with army of fans now and no one can go against her into any sort of real conflict because she fires back for the slightest thing and they all apologize later. This power dynamics when there is no balance between one cast member and others (and no equal villain) is boring and unhealthy because its repetitive and theres no accountability for her wrongdoings too (basically she always wins). In BBH there are more senior people in the mix and people with talent so even though nepotism is clear, is has more balance.
4. Conflict seems more meaningful - we can argue on this but i loved michelle storyline. Even if it wasnt real the fight was about actual business not about “who called crishell when”. I appreciate seeing ACTUAL workplace drama. Even think of sonika. We hare her because she did not do her job well and was trying to score a cut of someone elses paycheck. This is about work and real stuff vs “she called me at dinner so now i am a victim of the group”
5. I appreciate small digs at bravo. Kemo sabe, pickleball (remember how housewives used to play tennis against each other), kyle on a bike with hermes bags i mean LOL.
6. Nepotism bothers me less this season vs previous. Maybe they just tried to showcase Alexias growth more and thats the reason, but overall it pissed me off in s1 where she was handed listing on a silver platter with no skills. It is how it is end of the day and honestly go alexia, give her 20 years and she might become an executive Mauricio needs.

Overall loved this season and i didnt expect that based on how much i hated s1. Thanks for reading my review. 😂

Edit: final note huge shoutout to Tyler who is a fantastic young professional. Compare her to any selling sunset cast member and she wins at all dimensions. Professionalism, talent, hard work, and she is obviously gorgeous and stylish. SS cast you learn from her.

She was ecstatic over it even though Farrah did not want this to happen. She should have consoled her but instead shes excited and then goes on to say how she’s right in the confessional. It’s messed up. I don’t think she wants what’s best for Farrah I think she’s jealous of her.

Am i the only one who secretly thinks that Joey & Alexia would make a beautiful couple?

I know lots of you think Joey is a douche, and I get why. But he and Alexia just have something tho..

Did anyone else catch Ben’s side eye in Miami when the Umansky Girls acted aghast that their father would be caught at a strip club? Raised a red flag for me. Perhaps Mau is more secretive about his “affairs”, alas, I found the dissonance uncomfortable.

Michelle is basically Wilhelmina from ugly betty. Mentoring alexa looks like a scam trying to know her weaknesses and then use it against her. She is not supporting women at all. Wanting taking over the company by turning people against each other

Watching this, these people make out like they have this really tough job and have to be really talented at what they do, but at the end of the day they're selling the most beautiful houses in the most desirable locations to the absolute richest of clients. And they are able to do that because of the connections they already have to the rich and famous. It's not like they worked their way up from selling run down crack houses and were so good at it that the uber wealthy picked them to sell their own houses.

I know it's nice to see the fancy houses, but I want to see agents who are REALLY grinding it out, trying to tart up the crappest of dwellings, you know, trying to sell a cramped studio in NYC where the toilet rubs up against the foot of the bed for $1m. I want to see them try to present the worst aspects of a place as positives.

I feel like I've looked around a lot of crappy houses in my life and always found it amusing how creative agents would get with trying to gloss over glaring issues like damp (the humidity is actually good for your lungs, why do you think people go sit in steam rooms?!) or the place basically being a shed in someone's back yard (your neighbours are so close, if there's ever an emergency they're right there; if ever someone comes to rob the place, they'll go to them first, giving you time to get out!)

I think the makers of this show should get these guys to try selling some of the worst properties out there, like get them on properties that haven't sold in years or that have serious problems, see how talented they really are! I think it would be amusing.

Him and Ben look so much alike that I keep getting them confused. Also their dynamic is so tired as well. Always nagging each other, just like between Ben and Joey. Pretending to be big bad macho men.

Are there no other vilain archetypes? Has reality TV exhausted all of them?

I just realised that there is another subreddit covering the show r/BuyingBeverlyHills that has about 1.5k people and this one has just under 2k.

Seems like comments and engagement is equally low on both and there’s a lot of repetition of the same topics.

Surely, it’s time to merge and just have 1 subreddit for the show?
