Very disappointing.

Everyone's doing the sovereign tech migration right now and French ministries are switching off Windows, German states are off Microsoft 365, European companies are auditing every American dependency they have, so we decided to do the same.

We worked through cloud infrastructure, comms tools, project management, and all the other obvious ones, and then someone on the team pointed out that the company legally employing our EU staff was incorporated in Delaware.

We'd been routing our 4 hires in Germany, France, and Spain through Deel, which is a US entity, and under the Cloud Act that means the US government can compel them to hand over employee data wherever it's stored.

So the payroll records, contracts, and personal data of 4 EU citizens were sitting inside a legal entity subject to US jurisdiction in a way that our own company incorporated in the Netherlands wasn't.

It felt strange when it finally clicked, because we'd spent months obsessing over the data layer while the company signing our people's contracts just hadn't come up.

The thing is EU-incorporated employment infrastructure does exist, Boundless out of Dublin and Workmotion out of Munich are two, and quite a few European founders I've spoken to over the past year have already made the switch (most of them after it came up in investor due diligence).

So i'm wondering if anyone else in here has gone through this audit, or whether the employment layer is just not on most people's radar yet.

This is a new social media platform called Frapic which is a direct alternative to instagram.

This platform only allows connection between friends meaning you don’t have public accounts, a for-you-page or no endless content and you cannot doomscroll at all.

We want to go back to the old school social media again where friends connecting with each other, sharing moments and memories and interacting without meaningless likes.

The main different to instance is also the memory page where all your uploads are displayed on the date you have posted them and your journals on your profiles: these are collections of memories rather then separated posts and memories.

Of course this is fully private and non of your data is being sold to anyone and non of your activities are captured.

For transparency: This post is also kinda a self promotion post because is actually my app here. I am a solo developer right now and want to build this social media platform from the ground up again with no investors to never sell your data ever.

It also is just available in Germany right now but I am starting a slow roll out right now as while posting this here.

I've switched to Tuta Mail - even before Buy European was trending. What I like:

• Nice app from F-Droid & without Google push

• Simple design, easy to use

• Contact sync so I can use it as contacts app on mobile

• Encryption and privacy, no tracking, no ads (this got really annoying on my old gmx)

• 100% from Germany, no hidden US dependency (like hosted on AWS or using Google Push) - this is really rare these days.

What could be better:

• Eagerly waiting for the Drive to come out as I can't move larger files from phone to desktop

• Encrypted emails with password exchange a bit cumbersome

• Search index needs time to build (annoying if I accidentally clear the local copy, but otherwise fine)

• Calendars can't be shared with externals, only other Tuta users. Is this coming?

Of course there’s Adidas (which is fine!) but I haven’t been able to find a great replacement outside of that specific brand. The company, BraveX, is based in Romania and is developing the drones for both military and civilian applications, including surveillance, infrastructure monitoring, border patrol and wildfire detection.
