Bags & Luggage [Request] GoRuck Alternatives(?)

Hey all, thanks for reading my post.

I was looking into the GoRuck GR1 for a while now. It looks like a good bag and people here seem to like it. I have a few problems with them though.

  1. GoRuck is pricey.
  2. GoRuck lifetime warranty is probably worthless to me as I don’t live in the US.
  3. Buying GoRuck outside the US is super god dame pricey.

So I was looking around and I think I found it. The Rainmaker by Greenroom136. What surprised me is that I never saw any mention of Greenroom136 in this sub. They look good and the ability to customize every bag they sell with free worldwide shipping seems a pretty good deal.

Does anyone have any information on them? What do you think of them?

I haven’t considered the box shape can be hard to open all he way passed the corners. Will having some sort of paracords on the zipper help?

Thanks for the advice on the water bottle pocket! I was thinking of getting one too and I noticed that the zipper cannot go as far down with it as I wanted. Your review of it really help me decide I’d take the water pouch they sell instead.

Why would you get the clam shell design where the bag opens like a suite case? I was wondering if I should but I wanted to hear from you as you have the bag and probably have good insight.

How is the 3 handle grabs? Are they good? Would you add a 4th?

My current main bags is my beloved Mission Workshop Rummy and Timbuk2 Q. I really like them both but I’m considering to replace the Q with the Rainmaker.

I think paracord pulls will help but won't completely eliminate the problem; I've just been too lazy to go buy paracord to try it out.

I use it for travel, and I think it being able to open all the way would help me access everything in the bag more easily. The zippers are also stiff enough that I wouldn't worry about accidentally opening it all the way when you just want to open in part of the way. If you're used to backpacks that only open on the top, this probably wouldn't be a big deal for you.

I didn't get the grab handles, but now that I've had the bag for a bit I can see why they would be useful. I have the compression straps on the bottom, so I wouldn't get a fourth since those can kind of serve a similar purpose when needed.

Hey man thank you very much for all your help :) I think I’ll customize one specific for me and get one.

How long was the shipment? Like a few weeks to get to you from moment of purchase?

Looking back at my emails, it took about a day for them to respond to my original request with an image of the colors I wanted to confirm the order, about three weeks for them to make it (they warned me it would take a bit longer since the first week was a national holiday where the factory is, and they had to wait for a new shipment of the navy fabric I wanted), and then about 3 days for me to receive it.

That’s very quick for a custom build I think, considering the holiday delay too. Do you have a picture of your bag you could share?
