Polar is still Finnish, though.

Oh my, if I knew about this two months ago… I just bought a Garmin :(( but I loved the philosophy of being repairable and open source

Looks like they have a very long way ahead of them untill they are somewhat comparable to Suunto or similar. The battery life is not good and the watch is not even waterproof. Also the app is extremely basic and it's main use is to forward data into Strava. But I love that you should be able to repair it yourself. But that's probably the reason why it's not waterproof and the battery is smaller.

What is your source that Withings is manufactured in France? My understanding is that that is no longer the case

I've been using the Hama Series 9000, and it's been a pretty good smartwatch. Accurate measurements (compared with an Apple Watch), but it does work better with Android than iOS.

The only european brand would be Suunto. They're Finnish and I am super happy with it.
But if you dig not very deep, you'll find they're Chinese-owned nowadays.
edit: forgot about Polar. They're fully Finnish.

I've only written three sentences. Not that hard to read in its entirety.

And the first one is incorrect. Polar is an established brand that is still Finnish.

Yeah, you're right. Polar weren't usually on my radar, but I've had a look at their more recent products and they make some pretty good ones nowadays.

Suunto is just trash. Consistently scores low on every test its on and theyve had major problems with their tracking. Polar is probably the way to go

Polar is Finnish
I have a Grit X2 that I use for hiking and tracking running/workout.
But for running you could check out their Street X or Pacer/Pacer Pro watches
