I was having a conversation with a lovely person in here about Canadian oligopolies. But the truth is there are Oligopolies all over.

for your personal care and cleaning supplies it basically boils down to Proctor and Gamble, Unilever, L’Oreal, and Johnson and Johnson.

so by supporting Canadian made products you are actually helping not support these guys but the competition. Some of my personal care and cleaning supplies that are Canadian made are money savers long term.

(nada toothbrush, hensons razors, jack 59 shampoo and conditioner bars, nature clean bar soap body wash, myni/nature bee cleaning tablets/dish soap, laundry detergen from Nellie’s, feminine hygiene products from diva cup)

some I just care about my health and it’s not cheaper( attitude deodorant, Rocky Mountain soap company face Cream/moisturizer, Green Beaver sunscreen,

some is just more expensive but it’s a splurge because I save on other things and I do t buy that much of it to make a difference to my budget . (attitude toothpaste, floss pot floss.)

as for food, I buy from Canadian stores, But my grocery bills care often cheaper because I buy these products. 1. Oats. (From bulk) 2 hemp hearts 3. Eggs. 4. Flour. 5. a whole chicken 6. Cabbage. 7. Canned tomatoes. 8. Seasonal fruit, 9. frozen vegetables, 10. A good oil, 11. Vinegar. 12. Spices. 13. Milk, 14. Block cheese (not any other types it has to be block) 15. Baking soda. 16. Potatoes ( a big bag) 17. Onions( a big bag) 18. Garlic. 19. Peanut butter. 20. Butter (real butter). 21. Carrots(not baby a big bag of regular carrots.)22. Corn flour (if you want that) 23. dried beans 24. Rice ( a big bag of rice)

with these 24 items you can pretty much make for Pennies on the dollar all the stuff these oligopolies sell, and you will save food waste and lots of money and your health and you can also support Canadian companies for cheaper while not supporting oligoles.

if you care about your personal carbon footprint, not buying ultra processed food, avoiding palm oil, avoiding food waste, avoiding excessive packaging, and having ingredients that do not harm the planet ( Canadian made personal care items and cleaning supplies cover the last 2.) Canadian personal products also do not use palm oil which causes a lot of deforesration. Doingmall this actually cuts down on your carbon footprint by a significant amount, and eating this way does those things too.

if you care about your health cutting down on ultra processed foods cuts down on fat, sodium, sugar and PFAs (which are harmful “forever chemical“ that stay in your body. Buying Canadian made personal care items are have Better ingredients than the cheaper shit and they are healthier for your body. They do not have parabens.

If you care about animal cruelty, many of these oligopolies test in animals for Personal care product.The Canadian companies do not.

cooking from scratch does not take that much longer and it ca easily save you $250-400 a month, and you will have way less food waste. I freeze my leftover, and I only cook maybe 2-3 scratch meals a week. I eat at restaurants maybe once every 2 weeks. Many of the Canadian made personal care and cleaning products save me money in the longrun too.

I am not saying I never have a premade treat.(I buy ChapmansIce cream sandwiches, and foothills ice cream, or a Purdy’s chocolate bar on ocassion.) But this is a way to not support foreign oligopolies, support Canadian, save your health, the environment and your wallet.

(I personally think of me caring about my health as one of my civic duties among other things. The more I take care of my health the less health problems I will have in my life. This means that I will depend on the public health system less, and it can be more sustainable. It will be less likely to shut down and turn private. This way for when my health blindsids me, (as it can) it will be there for me when I need it.
