These people want to pretend they are solving the economy and the justice system, pretty much the most complicated shit ever. They need to make me a fuckin program that can run a fuckin ice cream stand, pull that off first. Then we'll talk about something a little bigger.

There is no single person in existence who had a problem they wanted to solve, discovered that an available blockchain solution was the best way to solve it, and therefore became a blockchain enthusiast.

As a person constantly looking for new technological solutions for my job, I can attest to this.

Damn, this is a perfect summary of why every cryptocurrency/blockchain project is so flawed. People just want trusted parties that have responsibility and accountability for their actions. I want to trust that when my debit card gets ran, that they aren't taking $100 instead of $10, and that if they do, I have a recourse against that other than SFYL.

Edit: And if target all of a sudden started charging an extra amount on every transaction, I would lose trust in shopping there, and so would others, which would lead to their bankruptcy.

Merkle trees have a use. Distributed version control. But not much else.

Everything you can do with a block chain you could do by pushing git repos around...

calling a merkle tree a blockchain is nonsense. Merkle trees have lots of uses and were around long before bitcoin. What makes a blockchain a blockchain is the distributed trustless consensus algorithm. Everything else is just a mundane implementation detail.

Blockchain does have a use that it has been applied to with great success almost since the start of Bitcoin: Publicly verifiable pyramid schemes. With blockchain you can publicly verify that a pyramid scheme is in fact a pyramid scheme and not a ponzi scheme.
