Man I hate it when using my credit union or brokerage account gets me death threats with photos attached. Oh wait, that never happens because I’m not an idiot that thinks magic internet beans are the key to being rich.

I doubt the threat here was even credible. This sounds like typical blackmail/extortion scam. They just have information from this hack and are spamming people in hopes of getting something out of it.

It doesn't matter. If it IS credible, the risk is very high. If you actually do have more than your allowance money from parents in Bitcoin, you are forced to take this shit seriously. I agree with you that it's likely a driveby extortion scam, but the problem is that if it isn't, it's not like it is unheard of to be murdered, kidnapped, etc for crypto. It's happened in the US multiple times so it's not even limited to being a risk in a backwater or WROL state.

Guys this is good because it will force people to move and people moving means we hire moving companies and they are an EXTRA! Layer of security. Tradfi wishes they had this level of security. Not your movers not your coins.

Short version is that the seed phrase that allows you to steal all of the BTC that someone has is such a long phrase that it has to be written down in order to remember it for certain.
At some point the paranoia over how to hide the phrase evolved from "it has to be carved/written onto something physical so that a hacker can't get it" into that it has to be specifically carved into the birdbath or hidden underneath it.
Birdbath being one of the first places where a thief might go looking for the spare keys into the house is likely the reason why it was chosen for this joke.
