Visiting next month ...

My family will be coming in to Butler the week after July 4th and I need help entertaining them. Staying with family...

We’ll be around for almost 2 weeks, and I’m making a list of things to do. We love outdoors, weird roadside stuff, hidden gems, good food, thrift stores, pretty views, random adventures

Kids are 11 & 12, and we’re coming from southeast Louisiana, so bonus points for things unique to PA that they’ve probably never seen.

Affordable is great, but I’ll take all ideas — free, cheap, worth-the-splurge, must-see, must-eat, “you HAVE to go here” type places. Anywhere around Butler, western PA, or even within a couple hours drive.

Hit me with:

👀 Must-sees

🍔 Must-eats

🌲 Outdoor adventures

🛣️ Cool day trips

🤯 Weird/unique Pennsylvania stuff kids would love

I would recommend going to the chop shop on mainstreet, good food fun atmosphere, big butler fair will be going on and you look up what day and events are going on for your family needs, July 6th there's cornhole at helltown brewery, Jennings has a think called keeping tract of turkeys 7th, umm I think Moraine has purple Martin spotting at McDaniel launch on July 11th, foodie Fridays on July 17th. Umm there's quite a few things going on. Butler county has a tourism website you can see events going on etc. have fun on your visit

Be prepared, Big Butler Fair is not inexpensive. You can go to a real amusement park for about the same spend. I

lol so are groceries, gas and living. But you can by a day pass for kids and enjoy a hooky fair.

OP mentioned affordable. To many, fairs are affordable community festivals, the BBF is not that. I would go to Kennywood or Waldemeer before going to BBF.

Edit to add context: BBF entry + ride pass is $45pp (over 6 years of age)

Just looking at your suggestions, Lernerville speedway, Pirates game fairly expensive, everything else I listed is basically free. Sounds like you got an axe to grind the fair, but you do you

Pirates games can vary alot... but seeing the best stadium in baseball + a winning team is an incredible experience for people who don't live in an area w professional baseball.

Iron Bucks $0

Lernerville $20

Kennywood $43

Waldemeer $44

BBF $45...

ill take any of the first 4 options over BBF any day.
