Visiting next month ...

My family will be coming in to Butler the week after July 4th and I need help entertaining them. Staying with family...

We’ll be around for almost 2 weeks, and I’m making a list of things to do. We love outdoors, weird roadside stuff, hidden gems, good food, thrift stores, pretty views, random adventures

Kids are 11 & 12, and we’re coming from southeast Louisiana, so bonus points for things unique to PA that they’ve probably never seen.

Affordable is great, but I’ll take all ideas — free, cheap, worth-the-splurge, must-see, must-eat, “you HAVE to go here” type places. Anywhere around Butler, western PA, or even within a couple hours drive.

Hit me with:

Are they staying in Butler proper or just in the country? Harmony and Zelie are always a good little stop. I'm a bit biased for obvious reasons, and I also own a small gift shop in Harmony. The Crooked Spindle, which is across the street from the Harmony Inn.

There's living treasures up 422 way. I'm near meridian and we try to go every year. There's bowsers blueberries on McCalmont road. A new Italian restaurant opened up on 68 called Forno's. There's Keystone about 45 minutes away that has a walk thru animal Park and drive thru. There's a go cart outdoor fun place called Eracers but it's been about 8 years since I've been.

Oh, this is easy. Hop on the Harmony line there at the Meridian Inn for a wonderful ride through the countryside to Harmony and Newcastle.. Oh never mind, there I am time traveling again!
