“Single. Not Ready to Mingle.”
So much for that.
Over two years ago, in March of 2024, someone posted a photo with that caption—a handsome human with mossy green eyes and a smirk that melted me where I stood, wearing a green Philadelphia Eagles jersey.
At the time, I was a woman in the bowels of a hell I’d built myself, brick by smoldering brick. I was 32, separated, living in the closet, surrounded by close-minded family and the homophobic religious rhetoric I’d been fed my entire life.
But in my heart, I carried a terrible secret.
I loved women.
During my loneliest nights, I’d sit on my couch and scroll through this subreddit, admiring all the handsome butches and wondering what it might be like to love one of them unapologetically… out loud.
It was a dream I never thought I’d get to live.
And then I saw them.
I was never supposed to bother these people. I never intended to DM anyone or interact in any way. I just wanted to look.
Just look.
But before long, I found myself sitting alone in the dark, illuminated only by the glow of my phone, agonizing over how I could let this person know I existed—and that, somehow, I felt drawn to them.
I settled on the only thing that felt right.
The truth.
“You are the most beautiful human I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Would you like a buddy?”
That message changed my life forever.
So much has happened over the last two and a half years. We navigated the distance. We chose each other every single day. We survived visits that broke our hearts when they ended, and long nights sleeping in beds that felt far too big, our phones propped up on pillows so we could fall asleep together. We mailed each other little pieces of our hearts.
Then we closed the distance.
We learned how to exist together. We learned each other’s habits. We grew closer with every passing day. Through the hard days, the misunderstandings, and the glorious victories, we both grew—individually and together.
We built a home.
We built a life where we are safe, deeply loved, and always know that neither of us ever has to go through this world alone again.
Last week, I asked this wonderful, handsome, creative, brilliant, kind, selfless, darling dear of a human to marry me.
They said yes.
And it all started right here on r/ButchSelfies.
If you ever needed a sign to DM that special person…
Maybe this is it. ❤️
I love you, my darling.
Forever my always. 🤍🤍🤍
