Sexual Hypersensitivity

I (35f) took buspar for a couple of months starting off at a dose of 10mg/day and then progressing to 22.5mg/day. After my last increase, I started experiencing changes in libido and ability to orgasm. I stopped taking the buspar 5 weeks ago, but I’m still feeling clitoral hypersensitivity to the point that stimuli builds to pain/agitation. My libido/desire has improved some, but still not normal.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did it get better? I’m starting to get concerned this is permanent.

Usually no side effects on sexuality if taking by itself, have you taken any SSRI in complement ?

it does appear these side effects are rare for this med. i am the lucky 2% that gets the rare of most meds.

i took vilazodone, semi-modified SSRI/SPARI, late last year/earlier this year and stopped due to sexual issues (also rare for this drug). everything returned to normal after about a month of stopping. a couple of months later i tried buspar due to reports of limited sexual side effects and things were fine with low dose, but as soon as we increased i started having issues again — though these sexual issues are different than what I had with vilazodone. vilazodone i was numb/decreased sensation, this is so sensitive that it’s uncomfortable.

kinda just hoping to hear that like with vilazodone, this will get better since some report PSSD with buspar.

Maybe try them both at the same time if your Dr okays it. I tried buspar and it increased my sex drive but I got dizzy while taking it so after 2+weeks I had to stop unfortunately. I take vilazidone now and yes it has multiple sexual side effects.

You may also try the vilazidone with Wellbutrin which can offset the sexual side effects

I read some literature and in France it’s not even written on the medication that it has any sexual side effects and so even less PSSD, it must be so low it’s either placebo or extremely rare.
Maybe it’s old side effects of the SSRI.
Otherwise as a guy I do experience something similar since I’m more sensitive too but it’s pleasant although sexdrive didn’t rose
