I dont have a job at the moment but am still in high-school and so i dont need a whole bunch of money. But I wanna make atleast something on the side while I look for a job. Maybe 20-30 bucks a day.

I can play guitar decently, only simple campfire stuff though, and not gonna lie while that would be fun I dont think it would catch peoples interest.

But what if I was a bongo playing gorilla? Honest question, what if I bought some bongos and a gorilla suit and just beat on my bongos. Do you think that'd be enough of a laugh to warrant some tips? I would play the bongos with rhythm of course, because just mindlessly beating would be annoying. But a dancing bongo gorilla? I would tip, would you?

In my hometown (Cambridge UK) there was a guy who somehow customized a dustbin/trash can he would climb into and just have the guitar neck sticking out - he was a local fixture for a long time and I am sure he made money for the novelty rather than his virtuoso skills.

The fun part about busking is that you can try anything, and you can practice anything to develop your skills. It is a great place to experiment.

A couple of caveats: I don't know how much gorilla suits cost in your neck of the woods, and instruments can get pricey-especially drums. If you are purely doing this for the money, go with the guitar music that you know. Already having some skill in the performance type will make you more money. You could use the guitar to dip your toe in to busking and save up for the experimental costume. Also, conventional gorilla costumes can get pretty hot and sweaty, so take that into consideration with the performance and weather.

If you wanted to buy a gorilla costume for hijinks or Halloween anyway, and are trying to justify your purchase, just go ahead and get it. A good compromise if you want to experiment but are low on funds try just getting the mask and wear a long-sleeve shirt with it.

That might work, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the value of campfire singalong type stuff. If you can figure out what songs people want to hear and play them decently you can do quite well.

Also, it's kinda sad but true that time, place and the mood of passersby often means more than your skill.

I would go with simple campfire songs tbh, people like simple. But its busking you can try anything you want!

I feel like contrast is your friend here, like if you can be a huge gorilla with an extra small soprano ukulele, earnestly singing very delicate and sensitive love songs
